2022 might start with a bang with some big fights in the making. A possible showdown between Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz is on the negotiation table. The two UFC fighters have been calling each other out on social media.

In addition to calling each other out, both the parties seemed to have verbally agreed to a fight on Twitter. Nate reacted to Dustin’s poke by offering him to fight in January, next year. The 32-year-old lightweight just lost his second chance to strike gold against Charles Oliveira at UFC 269.

Dustin had the first round in the bag but fumbled the title in the second and third as Charles Oliveira finished the job with a standing rare-naked-choke. Previously, ‘The Diamond’ lost the chance to get the belt against Khabib Nurmagomedov in a similar fashion.

After the recent spat, Poirier cleared some air on a potential Nate Diaz fight. He shared the details through a tweet captioned, “Maybe UFC 271 they couldn’t make it happen on 270. I said yes”

According to the timeline, if the January fight offered by Nate was finalized, both the fighters would have fought at UFC 270. The event is taking place in Anaheim, Calif. on Jan. 22 headlined by a title unification bout between Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane.

Will Dustin Poirier vs Nate Diaz ever happen?

The fight between the two isn’t happening in January. Also, Nate has only one fight left in his UFC contract. The 36-year-old is looking to get his one-fight done as soon as possible, which will create a problem for Dana White and UFC brass.

Additionally, Nate is coming off a two-loss streak against Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal. While Dustin is coming off a fresh loss, which may hinder his performance if he picks a fight as soon as possible.
