It has been more than two years since Khabib Nurmagomedov left the UFC, but moments of The Eagle’s dominance still sit fresh in our minds. With a perfect professional record of 29-0, Khabib Nurmagomedov established himself as one of the most dominant fighters in UFC’s history. Forget losing a fight, Nurmagomedov rarely lost a round in an MMA cage!

Recently, on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ podcast, Rogan himself brought up a legendary moment featuring Khabib. During a recent discussion with guest Andy Stumpf, the two delved into the topic of trash talk in the UFC. It was at this point that Rogan mentioned Nurmagomedov’s memorable trash talk.

Interestingly, the trash talk Rogan was referring to wasn’t performed by Nurmagomedov at the weigh-ins or any press conference. Rather, it happened inside the octagon, while the former lightweight champ was dominating his opponent. Rogan also shed some light on the scary manner in which The Eagle ended that bout.

Joe Rogan recalls a moment of pure dominance by Khabib Nurmagomedov

In the #1996 JRE podcast, the fight Rogan pinpointed was Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Michael Johnson, held seven years ago. While the Russian fighter was on top of Johnson, landing some heavy shots on him, he said – “You know I should be fighting for the title.” Interestingly, two fights later, Nurmagomedov indeed became the UFC lightweight champion.

Rogan then recalled how Nurmagomedov had locked Johnson in a Kimura lock. The podcaster admitted to genuinely worrying for Johnson’s arm, as resisting a Kimura lock could cause serious injuries.

“That was Khabib against Michael Johnson. He’s like ‘You know I should be fighting for the title’. That was a scary one because he got him in a Kimura. And I’m like ‘Please tap, please tap’. Because when guys don’t tap to Kimura, they get the spiral fracture of the upper arm, and it’s horrific.”

The fight took place at UFC 205 in 2016. Thankfully, Johnson did not resist the Kimura and tapped out in the third round. Moreover, this fight was on the historic card where Conor McGregor, Khabib’s arch-rival became UFC’s first simultaneous two-division champion.
