“This Dude Could Beat Petr Yan”- UFC Legend Henry Cejudo Touts This Khabib Disciple as the Next Champion

Dominance in martial arts just seems to run in Dagestanis. Khabib Nurmagomedov has been one of the most influential fighters ever to grace the lightweight division of the sport. It appears the next Dagestani is in line. This time, it’s Umar Nurmagomedov and in the bantamweight division.  

Having an unbeaten record just like his cousin ‘The Eagle,’ Umar Nurmagomedov is making strides in the bantamweight division of the UFC. With unparalleled wrestling and a large gas tank like his cousin, other fighters are pouring in optimistic predictions about the fighter’s future in the UFC. 

Henry Cejudo is the first to spot and call out talent when he sees it. The Olympic wrestler has stated a few bold statements about Umar Nurmagomedov and his future in the Bantamweight division of the UFC from here on out. 

Umar Nurmagomedov: Another dominant champ in the making 

“This dude, I’ve had an opportunity to roll with him just one time back at AKA (American Kickboxing Academy). This is before I was champ. I was like, ‘Man, this kid is special.’ This kid has a certain feel to just the fight game. He’s a better competitor than he is a fighter, but he’s a hell of a fighter,” stated Cejudo on ‘The Triple C & Schmo Show‘ podcast. 

He further added, “I think we may be looking at the future Bantamweight champion of the world. I don’t say that because he’s Khabib‘s cousin, I tell you that because this kid is the real deal… In my eyes, I think this dude could beat Petr Yan right now if they really gave him the opportunity. Because he’s got better wrestling. Petr Yan is so suspect on the grappling, and nobody has taken him there.” 

Cejudo firmly believes that Umar Nurmagomedov will be the future champion of the Bantamweight division of the UFC.

Russian Super fight: Umar Nurmagomedov vs. Petr Yan

Umar Nurmagomedov vs. Petr Yan would be the dream fight for fight fans of the Bantamweight division. As far as things go, the most dominant and divisive fighter in the division currently is Yan. 

Excluding his loss to Aljamain Sterling due to a disqualification, the Russian has been nearly unstoppable in the UFC. Hence, it makes sense why fight fans would love to see this fight. 

With that being said, however, everything has a process, and the UFC has one too. Umar Nurmagomedov will earn a title shot as long as he continues to climb the ladder like he is currently.
