‘This Is a Mindset’ – Ciryl Gane Reveals Meaning Behind His Nickname ‘Bon Gamin’

Ciryl Gane is all set to face Derrick Lewis at the UFC 265 main event. This fight will be for the UFC interim heavyweight title. Gane is coming into this fight undefeated in his MMA career and has a record of (9-0). Therefore, the fighter would look to get a victory and extend his unbeaten streak and win the title.

Before making his professional MMA debut back in 2018, the fighter was a professional kickboxer. He was undefeated throughout his Muay Thai career as well and had a record of (13-0). When Gane made his switch from kickboxing to MMA, he took on a nickname.

Gane believed that MMA fans resonate with a fighters ‘nickname’. Therefore, after joining MMA he chose his nickname ‘Bon Gamin.’ Now in a recent video put out by the UFC, we can see Gane explaining the reason behind his nickname.

He said, “I know I’m a good guy. Every time I like to love, I like to dance every time. But I like to go to war. I say baby face maybe something like that, or good kids or something like that. We’re stupid, ‘Bon Gamin’. It’s a French nickname. But that’s perfect.”

“This is not only a name of the group. This is a mindset, ‘Bon Gamin’. Is like stay young forever, stay young on your mind forever. Stay young and do what you want to do. Stay humble. Stay everything good feeling, just good feeling. This is ‘Bon Gamin’.”

Gane is undefeated across MMA and Muay Thai, he has till now competed in 22 fights and has never lost one. In his MMA career, the fighter has won 3 fights via KO, 3 via Submission, and 3 via decision. Proving that he is one of the most well-rounded fighters competing in the UFC.

While Gane’s record is impressive, his opponent is an MMA veteran and one of the most feared fighters in the UFC. Many often consider Derrick Lewis one of the hardest hitters in MMA history. He holds the record for joint-most KO wins in UFC history. Therefore, when Gane faces ‘The Black Beast’ at UFC 265, he will have to be very careful of Lewis’s striking prowess.
