When the UFC fixed the number one contender fight between Beneil Dariush and Islam Makhachev, fight fans were delighted. However, due to injuries he suffered before his bout, the Iranian was sidelined. Now down to the 6th rank, Dariush is yet to return to UFC action after his injury and will look to come back this year.
In a recent interview on MUNDO DA LUTA #186, the Iranian fighter, Dariush spoke about his recent standing in the title race. He also slammed, Charles Oliveira, for dodging worthy opponents like him and trying to book a money fight with Conor McGregor.
He said, “he’s (Oliveira) talking about wanting to fight Conor, and he says these guys never gave him a chance when he was out of the top 5. We were supposed to have faced each other in October 2020… He said something about family issues, and I’m not going to say”Oh, he didn’t fight me, I can’t believe it.” Family always comes first, I understand that, but the same thing people did to him, he’s doing to me.”

He got out of the fight, and then a few months later, instead of fighting me, he fought Tony Ferguson…Now, instead of fighting the real challengers, does he want to fight Conor? Want to fight Nate Diaz? This is hypocrisy,” said Dariush.
The initial plan for the title race was that the winner of the bout between Dariush and Makhachev will face Oliveira for the title. However, this failed due to Dariush’s injury and Makhachev beat Bobby Green in place of him. Now, the UFC is looking to set Islam Makhachev and Dariush again, the winner of which will face Oliveira.
“Dumbest Sh*t” – MMA Fans React to Khabib Nurmagomedov-Tyson Fury “Street Fight” Insinuation
However, if Charles Oliveira takes up a fight with anyone else, the winner of Dariush and Makhachev might not get the title bout. This might be the reason Dariush called out the Brazilian for ducking him and wanting to fight McGregor.
Beneil Dariush is confident that he will beat Charles Oliveira
Beneil Dariush is currently in tremendous form. He is currently on a seven-fight win streak. The fighter has ran through opponents like Drew Dober, Tony Ferguson, and Carlos Diego Ferreira.

If not for his injury, he was in line for a crack at the lightweight title.
In the interview, Dariush slammed Oliveira and claimed he is a “nightmare,” for Oliveira. he said, ” if you look at the Kevin Lee fight, he didn’t do well with Charles… No disrespect to Kevin, but he doesn’t have the jiu-jitsu, the grappling game like mine or Islam’s. I think, in terms of styles, we are a nightmare for Charles. I think I’m a nightmare for both of them.”
