After defeating Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, Jon Jones solidified his status as one of the best heavyweights on the UFC roster. The heavyweight champion refused to hang up his gloves after his marquee clash with Miocic, stating that he still has a few fights left in him before concluding his career. After a year of inactivity, Jones is back in the headlines for all the right reasons. As the year comes to a close, Jones has delivered a heartfelt message to everyone who supported him on his journey.

“Man, 2024… what a year. I’ve gotta say, this one’s been special,” writes Jon Jones through his X handle. He further added, “It’s been full of challenges, blessings, and opportunities, and I’m just beyond grateful for the ride. None of it would’ve been possible without the people who’ve been rockin’ with me through it all—my family, my team, my coaches, and, of course, all of y’all who support me every step of the way.

Jones further claimed that this year has been a path of growth for him on the mat, in the Octagon, on the screen, and most importantly, as a man and a father. The heavyweight champion claimed none of this would have happened without the support and strong foundation that keeps him sane. At the end of his statement, ‘Bones’ thanked every individual, who was there for him despite the highs and the lows.

“So, from the bottom of my heart—thank you. The love and energy you give me push me to keep going and striving for greatness. And trust me when I say this—this is just the beginning. Let’s keep building. God bless!” Jones concluded as he gave a message to his friends and family.  This year has been quite emotional for the heavyweight champion as well. In addition to successfully defending his heavyweight belt against Stipe Miocic, Jones also gained 50-50 custody of his son.

Back in June, Jones dropped an announcement that he got the custody of his son, “I was just granted 50/50 custody of my son, I’m the happiest dad in the world today.” Well, very little information was there about the incident. Regardless, in addition to that, even Jones’s former opponent, Daniel Cormier came forward to emphasize the importance of Jones within the MMA realm.

Setting aside their rivalry after years of battle, Daniel Cormier has come forward to emphasize that Jon Jones might be the most influential fighter to have ever embraced the Octagon. The former dual-weight champion further compared Jon Jones to that of NFL legend, Tom Brady stating that both of them have the same level of charisma for the game. “I don’t care about how you feel about him, and I might not mess with the dude on that level,” Cormier said.

He further added, “But how? I think he was the champion in 2011 for the first time. That’s a crazy thought that through all that, all those dudes, three generations of players. That’s kind of like Andrew Whitworth who played 20 years, he played for the Rams, he’s not going to be able to do this and get into the Hall of Fame for time served. It’s like Tom Brady playing through 30 years of football. This is not being a lineman; it’s not being an undercard guy. This is a main event guy who has been main eventing for 13 years, it really is an insane thought.”

Daniel Cormier is now looking forward to witnessing a clash between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall, which is likely to happen next year. Regardless, what’s your take on Jon Jones’ concluding statement of the year? State your thoughts in the comments below.
