The anticipation continues to mount, but the road to Conor McGregor‘s comeback seems to be filled with potholes and detours. The hopes of witnessing McGregor face off against Michael Chandler, as promised by UFC president Dana White, are slowly dwindling with each passing month of inactivity.
The Ultimate Fighter 31 is in full swing, but there is no sign of McGregor stepping foot inside the octagon. To make matters worse, he has yet to enter the mandatory USADA testing pool. As the anti-doping agency requires every fighter to spend six months in the testing pool before fighting, the Irishman is not eligible to fight in any PPV in 2023.

Amidst the lingering doubts surrounding his fighting future, McGregor continues to make headlines off the battlefield on Twitter.

Conor McGregor makes a cocky claim on Twitter
In typical McGregor fashion, he took to Twitter, a platform he knows all too well, to make a bold statement. “I’m the pound-for-pound king forever,” he declared. While his tweet may have been intended to rouse excitement and assert his dominance, the reaction from fans was a mixed bag of support, skepticism, and outright disbelief.
I’m the pound for pound king forever

Here are some of the fan reactions –
No other mma fighter will ever have a photo like this. The combat sports king. 🐐 pic.twitter.com/b8NcgpLtdx
— Twister MMA 🇮🇪🥃 (@MmaTwister) June 26, 2023
Meanwhile, many fans called the Irishman out.
Wont fight a real man tho pic.twitter.com/AK8eaBAFcp

Moreover, others brought Khabib Nurmagomedov into the conversation.

Some even named Floyd Mayweather as the rightful king.
Yeah right. That belongs to Floyd. You would be lucky to crack Top 100. You may fall out of Top 100 unless you get in there and win a few more fights actually. Your 3 years of high level fighting is a splash in the pan mate 😎🤔
— Blockchain J (@Blockchain_Jay) June 26, 2023
It seems like the Notorious’ statement did not sit well with fans.
As much as a fan I am of you, this is just wrong
— Billy Blockchain 💎 (@BillyBlokchain) June 26, 2023
However, many others supported the former UFC champ.
Always be the pound for pound king no one can take that away 🔥
— Jordan Ravenhill (@JordanRavenhill) June 26, 2023
Also, one fan made an intriguing point.
Conor got beat up too much at a young age. Lost to Floyd, lost to Dustin, lost to Diaz, Lost to Khabib all before 35 that’s way too many losses before 35 to be considered great
— Blockchain J (@Blockchain_Jay) June 26, 2023
Another one had some positive words.
You had one of the best runs in the UFC. Id like to another run like that again👊

Despite the passionate responses, McGregor’s tweet failed to address the burning question on everyone’s minds: when will he make his long-awaited return to the octagon?
The Irishman bragging about his stats in an earlier tweet
Continuing his trend of bold proclamations, Conor McGregor took to Twitter to boast about his remarkable fighting prowess. This 4-day-old tweet follows a pattern of similar posts in which McGregor touts his achievements. In his latest declaration, the Irishman claimed a perfect 100% striking accuracy rate, inviting his followers to ponder whether anyone else has ever achieved such a remarkable feat.
