‘The Notorious’ in particular, left no stones unturned to chastise the Brazilian. One such pre-fight incident involved the Irishman making a joke about a reporter’s question that even UFC President Dana White found amusing.
During an interview before the fight, a reporter asked ‘The Notorious’ what Aldo had done to earn his extreme dislike. McGregor responded with a witty answer.
“This is not a therapy session. I said what I said, he spoke my name out of turn. He should have kept his mouth shut. He should have gave me my credit for what I have done for this division. I made this division. Without me, the division is nothing. Without me, he is prelim,” McGregor said.
Dana White, who was seated between the two, started laughing at McGregor’s remark.
‘The Notorious’ later won the title fight in just 13 seconds and became the undisputed featherweight champion. He then competed in two other divisions: welterweight and lightweight. In 2016, the Irishman made history by winning the lightweight belt and became the first-ever dual weight champion in the promotion.
Conor McGregor: Current status in the UFC
After becoming the dual weight champion, McGregor made history by doing a first-ever boxing crossover in the sport against Floyd Mayweather in 2017. However, the Irishman didn’t find much success after he returned to the UFC.
