“Thought Dana [White] Banned Dan Hardy”: Fans React as Veronica Hardy Dominates TUF Winner Juliana Miller at UFC 286

UFC 286, headlined by the grudge fight between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman, offered fans exciting and high-paced action. The stacked card on Saturday night offered fighters the chance to move upwards in the ranks and also a shot at returning to the winner’s column. Also, O2 on March 18 became the venue for closely contested fights. Similarly, the early prelims opener fight involving Juliana Miller and Veronica Hardy attracted the fans’ attention as the fighter hailing from Venezuela emerged victorious in their encounter.

Notably, the 27-year-old won the back-and-forth fight via decision as she put in a dominating display.

What happened in the fight at UFC 286?

Miller, who is The Ultimate Fighter S30 winner, assumed the aggressor’s role and tried to cut the distance her opponent maintained. However, Hardy met Miller with jabs and landed effective strikes. And jabs remained her effective tool to cancel out the taller opponent’s reach. Further, the 6-4-1 record holder displayed strong takedown defense and in the last minute of the first round, caught the American fighter lacking and attempted a successful takedown. Thus, the underdog in the fight put in an impressive display and claimed the first round according to UFC commentator Daniel Cormier.

The tables turned in the second round as the 26-year-old tried to lock Hardy in an arm bar with her back on the mat. Despite her valiant efforts, the 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu team product got the ground-and-pound beating and faced the full brunt of punches and elbows. The MMA factory team product assumed control of the fight and Miller made glaring mistakes by forcing takedowns and submission attempts. Thus, the second round, the contest of grappling skills, was also claimed by Hardy.

In the last round, ‘Killer’, pressed by the desperate need for a finish, looked more confused. But the Venezuelan fighter, in her first fight in over 3 years, again took quickly took the fight to the ground and a similar ground-and-pound beating followed.

Hardy, who remained unaffected by ring rust, dominated the last round in every aspect of her game. Further, she also landed thunderous and threatening strikes. Thus, she claimed all three rounds and swept the judges’ scorecard.
