However, we have a few reasons to believe that it may not be a good idea for both former UFC stars to compete in a rematch.
Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz are two of the biggest stars to have come out of the sport of MMA. Conor McGregor waits for Nate Diaz as Jorge Masvidal has other interesting opponents to consider
For years now, Conor McGregor has been calling for a trilogy fight against Nate Diaz. Their previous two encounters have been etched in the UFC’s history books as two of the biggest fights the promotion has ever booked. Hence, a fight against the Irishman could be a much better option for the Stockton native than going for a rematch against Jorge Masvidal. Similarly, ‘Gamebred’ also has a few options in his hand to consider making his return get more focus and attention.

UFC fans are well acquainted with the hostility between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal. The pair only fought once with ‘Chaos’ picking up a decision win. Now, it could be the right time for Masvidal to strike back with a rematch to Covington following his lackluster performance at UFC 296. Moreover, the former BMF could also square off against the current BMF Justin Gaethje to make for an interesting fight for the fans.
The first fight was nowhere near close
Rematches are exciting to watch when two fighters do not garner a decisive win in the previous fights. However, in the case of Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal, their first encounter was a rather one-sided fight. If we take a look back at their fight at UFC 244, ‘Gamebred’ was constantly on the offensive, which could have put down opponents with less durability.
The beatdown from Jorge Masvidal led the doctor to halt the action during the third round, causing the Miami native to emerge victorious and become the inaugural BMF champion. Even though Nate Diaz hung in there, this fight favored Masvidal more despite the doctor coming to stop the fight in the end.
Lackluster performances in recent times
Jorge Masvidal went down a losing streak towards the end of his run with the UFC. The fighter, who’s been fighting for 20 years, lost 4 consecutive fights, leading him to announce his retirement at UFC 287. On the other hand, Nate Diaz may have left the UFC with a win, but he could not shine in his combat sports endeavors since departing Dana White‘s promotion.
