Conor McGregor’s journey to being the superstar of MMA was not easy. He started his training as a boxer back when he was twelve under the tutelage of Phil Sutcliffe Sr, a former professional boxer and two-time Olympian in Crumlin Gym. However, he left the gym as he wanted to learn about the disciplines of MMA. After he met with Tom Egan, he witnessed his clash at the UFC 93 held at the 3Arena in Dublin and it changed his life as he devoted everything to MMA since that day.

After becoming a double champ in CageWarriors, the UFC finally called upon McGregor to fight under their promotion. His debut fight was against Marcus Brimage and he won it by way of knockout. Just six fights later, ‘Notorious’ knocked out Chad Mendes to clinch the interim featherweight belt. Then started McGregor’s reign to glory as just after the Mendes fight, McGregor fought Jose Aldo in UFC 194 and knocked him out in the very first round. This was so sensational that Lorenzo Fertitta (the then-owner of the UFC) decided to surprise McGregor with a watch.

He gifted me a solid gold Rolex Sky Dweller. So after the bout, I won the belt and a knockout in the first round. It was a mega-successful event, and we all went out for dinner with the Fertitta family, and they gifted me this Rolex,” said McGregor.

He further added, “It was my first real watch. Before that, I was at the press conference wearing a fake one, but you know, you gotta fake it to make it, you know? I used to drive a broken-down banger of a car, but in my head, that was a Ferrari. I was able to almost, you know, believe it into reality.”
