UFC Welterweight Colby Covington has risen up the ranks to be one of the best 170-pound fighters on the planet. Chiefly, ‘Chaos‘ put any doubts about his legitimacy to bed in his headlining feature against former divisional champion Robbie Lawler. The aforementioned fighters met at UFC on ESPN 5 back in August 2019. Not to mention, the fight served as Covington’s long-anticipated return to action after he was stripped of his interim belt.

Colby Covington had captured the interim Welterweight title almost a year prior when he fought Rafael dos Anjos. The MMA world was beginning to see Colby’s varied skillset and truly considered him as a serious contender. This performance solidified Covington’s ability to absolutely overwhelm and decimate a high caliber former champion. Additionally, this notion was further bolstered by the final scorecards that reflected his dominance.

Although Colby Covington lost the title fight against Kamaru Usman in his next bout, he’s as dangerous as ever. The standout performance against Robbie Lawler set a precedent that MMA wrestlers could put together exceptionally entertaining striking showcases.
