Nobody in recent years has seen their stock rise like Khamzat Chimaev. He is one of the biggest prospects in the UFC right now, and many look at him as the future champion.

Ever since his debut on July 16, 2020, ‘Borz’ has looked like a man on a mission. He won that fight against John Philips and made one of the quickest turnarounds in UFC history. Chimaev took on Rhys McKee just 10 days later and won that fight in the first round.

He is always looking for a fight, but the UFC fans once got to see a different side of him. After his second fight, during an interview, he got emotional while talking about his aunt.

He said, “My aunt died recently. I told my mom, soon I will make a lot of money. InshaAllah, everything is going to be okay. She just said, if only you had that money now. My aunt is in heaven, InshaAllah.”

Nobody had seen this side of him. However, this just shows that everyone is fighting for a reason.

Massive News for Jon Jones Fans as UFC Return Talks Begin

Since the interview, he has gone on to win his next two fights as well, and in some style. In his third appearance in the octagon, he knocked out Gerald Meerschaert in just 17 seconds.

However, his most impressive performance came in his last outing. He took on his first ranked opponent in Li Jingliang and dismantled him. In what was supposed to be his toughest test, Chimaev rag-dolled Jingliang and established himself as a top contender.

Khamzat Chimaev vs. Gilbert Burns might be happening soon

Since his victory at UFC 267, Chimaev has been calling for bigger fights. He wants to fight the biggest names on the division, and he finally might be getting his wish.

The Swede recently had been going back-and-forth with Gilbert Burns. Both were itching to take on each other, and it looks like the UFC is interested in the matchup as well. According to Combate’s Raphael Marinho, they are looking at UFC 273 to book the fight.

He tweeted, “In addition to the two belt disputes involving Brazilians (Glover and Do Bronx), UFC was negotiating to have Gilbert Durinho X Khamzat Chimaev in Brazil. The trend now is for the fight to be brought forward to April 9, depending on the approval of Chimaev’s US entry visa.” (Translated by: Google)

Burns is the number 2 ranked welterweight and if Chimaev gets the better of him, he will instantly become a title contender. On the flip side, if ‘Durinho’ is able to put a stop to the rise of ‘Borz,’ another title shot could be on the cards.
