Jon Jones recently got injured before his title fight against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295. As such, UFC CEO Dana White set up an interim heavyweight title fight between Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich, which the former won. Aspinall later called for Jones to vacate the title, to which the latter shared a tweet recently. However, the English fighter was also quick to react to that message.
Tom Aspinall made headlines after knocking out Sergei Pavlovich in the co-main event of UFC 295. Moreover, it was a first-round knockout, which led people to believe that he could be the one to finally beat Jon Jones. Aspinall later mentioned Jones’s inactivity and demanded that the UFC strip him of the title. But Jones responded on social media and that promoted a rather surprising reply from the interim champion.

Tom Aspinall reacts to the message from Jon Jones
Jon Jones recently responded to demands for him to vacate the title. He mentioned that he had fought the who’s who of the UFC for over 15 years. Moreover, it was the first time Jones had to get surgery due to an injury. He sounded off on the newcomers in the division and the UFC for asking Dana White to strip him of the title and mentioned how they had no wins over any MMA legend or a title defense.

Furthermore, Jon Jones reminded everybody that nobody was on his level, and they should remember that. Meanwhile, that tweet from ‘Bones’ caught the attention of Tom Aspinall as he shared his reaction with a reply. He seemed to agree with Jones and apologized to the heavyweight champion. Aspinall said, “You’re right. Sorry Jon.” While there are demands for Jones to be stripped of his title, Dana White had confirmed earlier that his fight against Stipe Miocic will happen next year.
Jones’s fight against Stipe Miocic will be rebooked in 2024
Just days after UFC 294, the UFC CEO opened up on the canceled fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. He confirmed that Jon Jones will be out for at least eight to nine months before he fully heals from his injury. Nevertheless, he assured that Jones vs. Miocic will happen, anyway. White said, “This fight needs to happen. Two of the biggest legends in the sport want the fight, the fans want the fight, so yeah.”
Dana White says the winner of Aspinall/Pavlovich will have to wait to face the winner of Jones/Miocic.
Asked what happens if Jones/Miocic retire after their bout:

Dana White also mentioned that the fight between Stipe Miocic and Jon Jones will put an end to the debate surrounding the best heavyweight of all time. And it will depend on the winner of the fight if they are willing to continue fighting. “To be the man you gotta beat the man so whoever wins that fight, it would be nice to see them stick around and defend it. That we can’t determine until it happens,” the 54-year-old added.

With the interim title in play, it is unlikely that Jon Jones will be stripped of his title since he got injured. Even though it will take him eight to nine months to return, the UFC CEO wants to make the Stipe Miocic fight happen. We will have to wait and see how that pans out when ‘Bones’ finally returns to action.
