Current UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall is set to defend his title against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 in Manchester after failing to secure a title shot against division king Jon Jones. Despite focusing on his upcoming fight on Saturday, Aspinall recently expressed doubts about the long-awaited fight between UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic, apparently scheduled for November 2024 in New York.

In a recent interview with UFC veteran Daniel Cormier, Tom Aspinall shared a surprising prediction. When Cormier asked about the possibility of fighting Jon Jones or Stipe Miocic in the future, given that the winner of Aspinall vs. Blaydes was expected to face the winner of Jones vs Miocic, Aspinall responded, “The heavyweight division is probably in the best spot it’s been for a while. There is definitely a bit of a jam-up at the top, stuck a little bit. As soon as Jon Jones decides what he is doing—like, is he even fighting Stipe Miocic?”

Feeling shocked by Tom Aspinall’s words, Daniel Cormier weighed in on the discussion. Cormier pointed out that New York had already been decided as the potential venue for the Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic fight. However, Aspinall’s logical reasoning raised doubts about this. He demanded to see a contract for the Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic fight. He further added,” Right now, I’m just doing my thing, to be honest. Curtis Blaydes is a serious guy.”
However, Tom Aspinall’s statement contradicts Dana White’s recent claim. During the pre-fight press conference, White guaranteed an undisputed title shot for the winner of the Tom Aspinall vs. Curtis Blaydes fight.

Tom Aspinall focuses on creating his own legacy
Tom Aspinall is now focused on creating his own legacy rather than chasing Jon Jones. Since defeating Sergei Pavlovich to claim the interim heavyweight title at UFC 295 last year, Aspinall has been seeking a change to unify his belt with Jones’s. However, he hasn’t had that opportunity and must now face Curtis Blaydes to determine the next title contender.
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Aspinall was asked if he ever got the chance to fight Jon Jones. He claimed his career doesn’t depend on Jones’s, saying, “I’ve been rallying for it for a long time now. I haven’t got the fight, and I don’t know if it’s ever going to happen, but I’m not really that bothered. I am here to create my own legacy, and I’m trying to be great myself, and I don’t need Jon Jones to do that. If I could get that, fantastic. I really think I can beat him, but I ain’t focused on that right now to be honest. I’m just thinking about Curtis Blaydes and that’s it.”
