Curtis Blaydes said Tom Aspinall and he have some unfinished business to attend to and he was absolutely correct about it too. Tom Aspinall went up against Blaydes and lost in devastating fashion during their first meeting. Now, will the interim champion want another shot?

Let’s take a look at Aspinall’s current position. He is the interim heavyweight champion but Jon Jones will soon make his comeback and fight Stipe Miocic. Whoever wins that bout could become the champion and Aspinall would be the rightful contender on that list. Is it a good idea for him to fight Blaydes before then? It looks like he doesn’t care.

Tom Aspinall initially beefed with Jon Jones after saying that perhaps due to his inactivity, the champion should be stripped of his title. Jones is currently out due to a pectoral injury that happened during his training for the Stipe Miocic bout.

The bout subsequently got canceled and now Aspinall is looking at a potential fight with Curtis Blaydes. What’s the story between them? Blaydes was up against Aspinall at UFC London back in July 2023. And his loss came in at a staggering 15 seconds.

Now, Aspinall wants to get back at him in a matchup. He spoke to Michael Bisping on the Believe You Me Podcast about the Blaydes callout. “. . .I have nothing bad to say about Curtis Blaydes personally. Professionally, I want to whoop him.” He told Bisping.

“I want to whoop him, simple as that. I owe him one and I would love to get it back so (if) the UFC want to do it I am more than up for doing it.” Blaydes defeated Jailton Almeida via a knockout at UFC 299 and Aspinall was still on his mind. The fight was interesting in its own right.

Jailton Almeida managed to take down Curtis Blaydes a staggering nine times in the very first round. However, after a series of great punches in the very second round, Blaydes secured the knockout win over the fighter. Once the dust had settled, he told Joe Rogan that Aspinall and he could go at it again.

“I believe me and Aspinall have got some unfinished business,” Blaydes said. “I’d like to get that one next. . . That’s my next fight, Aspinall.” In response, Aspinall soon tweeted an acceptance saying he doesn’t have to be asked twice. It makes sense for him to fight Blaydes too because Jones is still focused on Miocic.

So, if Jones doesn’t retire after his next fight and remains a champion, perhaps a title defense against Aspinall is something that could happen. Would you like to see this fight or would you prefer him going up against Curtis Blaydes instead?
