Frustration is starting to get the better of Tom Aspinall, who’s been waiting to fight Jon Jones since UFC 295. Despite Dana White being adamant on making this fight happen by the end of 2025, there are still no signs that the impending heavyweight clash will come to fruition. However, Aspinall recently caught fans’ attention when he claimed that a big ‘heavyweight news’ was coming up, and the consensus among fans was that this announcement might be about a fight.

“Sorry guys, I’m fighting for a new belt. Interim of the interim BMF UFC heavyweight title,” Tom Aspinall wrote on social media recently. For some, it might have been about his next fight, but others believed the Englishman was trolling Jon Jones. Why? Well, he said the same thing Jones said when he responded to claims about ‘ducking’ Aspinall. “Living my best life,” the interim champion wrote.

Media outlets quickly caught hold of these comments from Aspinall, leading fans to be certain about his next fight. However, it was all a ruse. Tom Aspinall recently came across TNT Sports’ Instagram post, where his comments were displayed. He decided to drop the truth bomb in the comments as he backtracked on his claims.

Well, there is some big news coming up on 28 May, but the interim heavyweight champion said that it has nothing to do with who he fights next. That certainly spoiled the fans’ mood. “Guys. It’s not fight news,” wrote Tom Aspinall. Now, fans have no idea what this announcement could be. It could pertain to some business news, but we cannot be too sure of it because it’s a surprise.

Besides the fact that there are people calling out Jon Jones for holding Tom Aspinall’s career, there are also complaints about him holding up the division. Some heavyweight fighters have been vocal about it, and recently, it was Alexander Volkov. Here’s what he had to say.

Alexander Volkov expresses frustration with the Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall situation

Given that the heavyweight title picture is in limbo, Jailton Almeida has been talking about moving down to 205 lbs. He even issued a callout to Magomed Ankalaev, who’s looking for an opponent. Meanwhile, Alexander Volkov isn’t taking the same route, as he didn’t hold back on his words while bashing Jon Jones for making Tom Aspinall and the whole division wait. He’s not getting any younger after all.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Jon Jones holding the heavyweight division hostage, or is Dana White to blame for the delay?

Have an interesting take?

“As a fighter, of course, I have a negative opinion about the delay of the Jones-Aspinall fight, because my chances to fight for the championship title are getting smaller, and time is running out,” Alexander Volkov told ‘ChampionAT’. “In other weight classes, there is a real conveyor belt of fights. That is why I am unhappy. So I would have had a chance to test myself in a title fight a long time ago, if it were not for Jon Jones.”

The question that people have in their minds is: Who should be blamed here? Should it be Jon Jones, who’s not showing any signs of return, or should it be Dana White, who isn’t stripping him of the title? Well, there are people on both sides of the debate, but the heavyweight division is suffering the real loss. What do you think about the Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall fight? Drop your comments below.
