Despite Dana White assuring fans that the impending heavyweight title unification matchup between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall, the consensus GOAT recently made a concerning statement. “I’m done,” Jones recently stated during a conversation with a retired Russian fighter, videos of which are going viral on social media. This statement goes to show that maybe the fight may not see the light of day. While these comments are what the community is talking about, Aspinall has come unglued about his current situation.

Jon Jones has done everything there is in his illustrious UFC career, so not fighting Tom Aspinall won’t hurt him as much. But the fact that this fight is what’s keeping the Englishman sidelined, with no plans in sight, the interim champion is not really in the best mental space. During a conversation with MMA great Demetrious Johnson, Aspinall revealed that Dana White’s promise to materialize the Jones fight hasn’t worked out, and as he still waits for something to happen, he’s trying to keep himself focused on his goals.

“I’ve been almost a year inactive, with no prospect of anything. [The UFC says], ‘Just be ready, and we’ll just let you know.’ That is kind of difficult, like, mentally, to [stay sharp and focused],” Tom Aspinall stated on ‘Mighty Mouse’s YouTube podcast. “The fight is another thing. This is the tricky bit, where I really have to say switched on, stay motivated, and I’m trying my best. It’s tough.”

Despite being on the sidelines, Tom Aspinall hasn’t slowed down in the gym. He’s still working on himself. And while he understands what Jon Jones really wants from the UFC, given that he has more to lose from the fight against the interim heavyweight champion, he spoke out one more time about being open to fight anyone, with the undisputed title on the line.

“As you said a minute ago, no one really knows what’s going on behind the scenes apart from me… I train all the time, anyway. Just because I’m not going to fight doesn’t mean I don’t train,” Aspinall added. “I honestly can see Jon’s point of view. I get it. I get it. It’s just about the title for me. I just want the title. That’s it. There’s nothing else really matters… I just want to fight.”
