UFC 274 has become a lightweight showdown in the wake of this fight. Both Chandler and Ferguson had been lobbying for a fight against each other and teased it throughout the year. Now, as the bout has been confirmed, it has overjoyed ‘El Cucuy’.

The UFC 274 PPV is going to be held at Footprint Center in Phoenix. The main event will see Brazilian submission artist Charles Oliveira enter the cage for his second consecutive title defense against Justin Gaethje. In his first title defense, he beat former UFC interim lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier, via third-round submission.

Although Michael Chandler made an impressive knockout UFC debut against Dan Hooker, he has lost his last two fights- against ‘Do Bronx’ (UFC 262), and ‘The Highlight’ (UFC 268).

Michael Chandler promises to beat Tony Ferguson

Like most UFC fights, this bout has also seen a fair share of drama and banter before coming to fruition. In January, both fighters went back and forth on Twitter after an initial callout by ‘El Cucuy’, who thrashed ‘Iron’ for ducking him and calling out Conor McGregor instead.

Ferguson called Chandler his “bi**h” and it did not sit well with the former UFC title challenger, who replied respectfully, followed by a chilling warning.

“Oh Tony. There’s only a handful of guys in this game I truly respect…you’re one of them. Only because of your tenure, not your stature or your current presence in the division. I’ll beat you from bell to bell. Pray for a merciful ref. We shall see if this fight happens,” Chandler tweeted.
