This was Makhachev’s second victory via submission this year. The Dagestan native is currently on an amazing eight-win streak. He wishes to fight one bout in the lightweight division by the end of the year.

During the post-press conference, Makhachev revealed the name of the fighters he would like to fight next and talked about a few other important things.

While addressing the fellow lightweight fighter Tony Ferguson, Makhachev made a few bold statements. He said, “If they give me a choice, let’s do it with Tony because we have a good history with him, you know. Khabib was supposed to fight with him five, six times.”

He added, “Let’s finish this, you know. I’m gonna finish this. I’m gonna show people around the world like Tony is not on Khabib’s level you know. But people don’t understand how Khabib has pressured like I cannot explain to you guys. I think you know everything.”

Makhachev has earned himself a position in the promotion with his spectacular victories. And with ‘The Eagle’ by his side, he is unstoppable. However, combat fans are eagerly waiting to see what the Dagestan native brings next to the table.

Meanwhile, Makhachev’s coach and long-time friend ‘The Eagle’ has planned his future move in the UFC.

‘The Eagle’ wants Makhachev to fight one more bout this year to go (3-0) in 2021. According to ‘The Eagle’ another win this year might win Makhachev a ‘Fighter of the Year award’

Brett Okamoto of ESPN posted his conversation with Nurmagomedov on his Twitter account, “Khabib Nurmagomedov tells me the plan is for Islam Makhachev to get one more fight near the end of the year, get a finish, and be named Fighter of the Year. He’s 2-0 with two finishes so far. He’d have to beat out some tough competition. Usman, Moreno, Ngannou are tops, I’d say,

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has won two fights this year. Meanwhile, Moreno and Ngannou also secured an amazing win in their respective division for the UFC gold.

It is stiff competition for the Dagestan native. However, Makhachev is following the footsteps of the former lightweight champion Nurmagomedov and he seems to be on the right track now.

Few more wins this year might get the (20-1) record holder a shot for UFC lightweight gold as well. However, the combat fans will be eagerly waiting to watch what he brings to the table next.
