Tony Kelley Withdraws From the Fight Against Trevin Jones on July 24 UFC Is Still Searching for a Replacement

Tony Kelley was set to fight Trevin Jones in a bantamweight bout on July 24, 2020. However, Kelley has withdrawn from the fight. The reason for the withdrawal is still unknown.

Recently, MMA Island took to Twitter to break out the news of the withdrawal. “Tony Kelly is OUT of his fight against Trevin Jones on July 24, per sources.”

“The plan is for Jones to remain on the card, replacement pending,” MMA Island concluded.

As per reports, the Guam Native will remain on the card until the promotion finds an opponent for him for the 135lbs bout. Following a win in both their previous respective matches, this was a great opportunity for both the fighters to cement their position in the bantamweight roster.

However, now the fight is not happening we look into the scenario of how the showdown would have taken place inside the octagon.

Tony Kelley vs Trevin Jones: An overview

Tony Kelley was about to clash against Trevin Jones. However, Kelley has withdrawn from the fight leaving his opponent without a dance partner. Jones faced Timur Valiev in his UFC debut match. The fight was declared no contest due to a positive marijuana test.

However, the (13-6) record holder proved his presence in the bantamweight roster by defeating Mario Bautista via knockout at UFC 259: Blachowicz vs Adesanya.

Meanwhile, Kelley faced a loss in his debut match against Kai Kamaka at UFC 252: Miocic vs Cormier 3. But the latter was awarded Fight of the Night because of his best performance in the event. The (7-2) record holder then defeated Ali AlQaisi in his second UFC match on 11 October 2020.

Both the fighters had one loss in their UFC resume. However, Kelley a skilled defensive player would have given a hard time to the Guam fighter inside the octagon. Still, it would have been a great fight and an excellent opportunity for the fighters. However, the withdrawal has ruined it for them.
