“Too Much Khabib Privilege”: Islam Makhachev Kissing the Canvas Against Alexander Volkanovski Halts His P4P Claim, Believes UFC Fans

Islam Makhachev created history after winning the best pound-for-pound fighter title after his win against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284. Even though the result shocked many fans and MMA personalities, the Dagestan native was able to extend his unbeaten run to 12 fights. It is the longest unbeaten streak in UFC’s history. However, UFC fans claim that Volkanovski should not lose his best -pound-for-pound fighter tag after an incredible performance.

Alexander Volkanovski couldn’t become the fifth double champion in UFC’s history even with the uproarious support of his home crowd. However, he displayed an excellent performance in his first lightweight fight in Dana White’s promotion.

Makhachev was the favorite going into the main event of UFC 284. But he could only win the fight via a unanimous decision. In what was one of the closest fights in the UFC, fans claim that Alexander Volkanovski should not lose his status as the best pound-for-pound fighter. The result of the fight even shocked famous UFC commentator, Joe Rogan.

Fans claim that Alexander Volkanovski should keep his best P4P fighter status

Fans have stormed onto social media to express their disappointment with the judges’ scorecard for the UFC 284 main event. They do not believe that Alexander Volkanovski should be stripped of his status as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC. Let us look at some of the reactions from Twitter users.

One fan claimed that Volkanovski got burgled out of a sure-shot win against Islam Makhachev.

Another Twitter commented that ‘The Great’ took the Dagestani champion to the limit. He believes that there could be a possibility of a rematch.

MMA reporter Alex Behunin also commented that ‘The Great’ should not lose his best P4P fighter status. Fans reacted to his tweet and one of them claims that the way 5th round ended with Makhachev getting knocked down, shouldn’t have taken away Volkanovski’s P4P title.

Another fan claimed that the fight could have been a draw after both fighters went toe-to-toe till the end of the 5th round.

One fan believes that the UFC gifted Islam Makhachev with an undeserved no. 2 spot in the P4P rankings without having any title defenses. He claims that he got the “Khabib Privilege.”

One fan reiterated the meaning of the best pound-for-pound fighter. He believes that Volkanovski should keep his no. 1 rank considering his performance in his first-ever lightweight bout in the UFC.

‘The Great’ ensured the MMA fans that his lightweight journey was not over yet. He will be back in the division while confirming that he will put his featherweight title on the line against Yair Rodriguez in his next fight.
