UFC Fight Night: Moicano vs Duncan

When it comes to this weekend’s crown jewel event, the UFC’s return to the Apex definitely stands out from the rest. On April 4, the promotion will be bringing an exciting showdown between Renato Moicano and Chris Duncan as this week’s Apex headliner, with a pretty solid undercard around it.

The former lightweight title challenger is returning after suffering two back-to-back losses against Islam Makhachev and Beneil Dariush. So, Moicano definitely needs a win to keep himself relevant in the rankings for future title contention. But his opponent, Chris Duncan, is on a 4-fight winning streak, and that’s some serious progress.

In the co-main event, Virna Jandiroba returns after losing to Mackenzie Dern in their rematch at UFC 321 last year. Although she missed her chance to claim the strawweight belt, Jandiroba still pushes forward to claim her place once again. This weekend, she faces a dangerous Tabatha Ricci, who holds the #7 spot in the division and carries solid knockout power. At the Meta Apex, both fighters will look to deliver strong performances, as a statement win could earn them a potential title shot.

On the main card, fans will also see the parlay killer Ethyn Ewing return against Rafael Estevam after stopping the Malcolm Wellmaker hype train at UFC 322. The entire event will be broadcast on Paramount+. Next? There’s some Zuffa Boxing action going on this weekend as well.

Zuffa Boxing 5

After some Octagon action, combat sports enthusiasts won’t mind switching over to Zuffa Boxing. Under Dana White’s ambitious planning, Zuffa Boxing has drawn plenty of attention as they signed established names like Moses Itauma and Conor Benn to the roster. But, alongside the marquee names, their up-and-coming superstars are also ready to prove their worth.

At the Zuffa Boxing 5 event, undefeated Andres Cortes (24-0) is all set to face Eridson Garcia (23-1) in the main event. The American is a former WBC USA Silver super featherweight titleholder, so there’s some solid value behind his name. On the other hand, the Dominican has only one career loss, against Jordan White in 2024, and no one else, which makes him a formidable adversary.

Following the headliners, the Philippines fighter, Mark Magsayo, who shared the card on the Manny Pacquiao vs Mario Barrios event, will face Feargal McCrory in the co-main event. For those who don’t know, the Irishman has only one professional loss, which came against Lamont Roach Jr., who went toe-to-toe with Gervonta Davis. And that’s definitely not a bad loss to have on his record.

Now, the combat sports fans can watch these stellar boxing matches unfolding in the ring just a day after the UFC Fight Night event on April 5th. And just like the MMA event, Paramount+ will also stream the fights under TKO’s $7.7 billion deal. Other than the Zuffa Boxing event, there’s more boxing going down this weekend.

Angelo Pena vs. Salvador Jimenez (Boxing)

American fans have a packed weekend ahead, but there is some decent action going on internationally as well. Even before the UFC and Zuffa event, Berne, Switzerland, brings a solid boxing clash between Angelo Pena and Salvador Jimenez on April 3.

In a 10-round fight with 3-minute rounds, Pena will be looking to defend his WBO and IBF Inter-Continental super featherweight titles against Jimenez. Ahead of the showdown, the Swiss fighter has defended the title four times in a row, and he’ll be looking to hold his ground for the fifth time against the Spaniard on his home turf. But that’s not all.

On the undercard, fans will see former UFC fighter Zarah Fairn back in action after dropping four fights in a row in Dana White’s promotion. After her very underwhelming run, she’ll face Cristina Mazzotta from Italy, who is very new to combat sports with a 1-1 record.

The event is definitely looking solid, but unfortunately, the US broadcast details for the event are not known as of now. However, lastly, there’s a Georgian veteran who’s making a return to the ring, and that clash should entertain fans.

Integra FC 23

For the UFC, Georgia has been a blessing, as the country has produced top-of-the-line champions like Merab Dvalishvili and Ilia Topuria. And we can see why. Georgians love watching martial arts, and the German promotion Integra FC’s next event is a testament to that. On April 4, IFC is hosting an event in Tbilisi where a seasoned veteran is making his return.

To fight for the vacant IFC lightweight championship, Levan Makashvili (21-10-1) will collide against Helio Leal (5-4) in the main event. Now, a new UFC fan might not recognize Makashvili, but he has fought three times in Dana White’s promotion and holds a 1-1-1 record, which is quite unusual. However, ‘The Hornet’ is mostly known for his extensive career in ACA.

Following an underwhelming UFC run, Makashvili went on to compete in the Russian promotion Absolute Championship Akhmat, fighting 13 times with the company. Though he ended up with a 5-8 record, the Georgian’s clashes with Roman Dík and Elismar Lima remain highlights of his career.
