Tracy Cortez is all set to lock horns against Rose Namajunas this weekend. Although Namajunas was initially slated to clash against Maycee Barber, Barber pulled out citing undisclosed medical reasons, and Cortez had to step in to make the match even better. As ͏Corte͏z stepped up͏ on very short notice͏, she barely͏ made weight ͏at the weigh-ins, coming in slightly ͏over a͏͏t 126 pounds. Be it a testament to her conviction or otherwise, she even had to cut her hair to make weight.

While the MMA community applauded Cortez’s intent to fight Namajunas, UFC fighter Ailin Perez appears to be not having it. The immediate haircut helped Cortez to make her weight but it didn’t stop Perez from taking shots at Cortez on social media. Perez took to her social media to add a photo of Cortez on her story and captioned it as, “Wow @Cortezmma you really had to cut your hair to make weight.”

She further added, “You were given an amazing opportunity to be a main event versus a former champ and you barely made it lol. What a waste of an opportunity, you are showing your lack of preparation for a moment so big.

Both Ailin Perez (3-1) and Tracy Cortez(6-0) have amazing records in the UFC and both of them are prospects for the title fights in their respective division.  However, Perez’s unnecessary attack on Cortez seems to have backfired on her as the MMA community took her into a spiral. Starting off, a fan reminded Ailin Perez that she had missed her weight in her match against Lucie Pudilová back in 2023 as well. Cortez at least made her weight after cutting her hair. However, this was not the case for Perez straight out screamed after missing the weight.

Ailin Perez’s behavior in the UFC has been debatable. Her signature twerking after winning her match has been criticized by many. Interestingly, Perez has a history of feuding with other fighters, Following a physical altercation with Joselyne Edwards at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas last November, she threatened legal action against her. Regardless, another fan seems to be done with Perez’s behavior.

Furthermore, a social media user straight out disregarded the entire weight class thing.

Despite being overweight by just one lb, Cortez made her weight by cutting her hair. Well, this doesn’t sound like a big issue but Perez appears to think of it as disastrous. Regardless, a social media user was equally confused.

Fighting on short notice has always been seen as a lifesaver for the UFC. Since Cortez took the fight on short notice, things shouldn’t have been such an issue.
