2022 has been a pathetic year for the MMA community in many ways. This year has seen some of the most noted faces of the combat world bidding goodbye to earth. Beginning with the death of noted wrestling legend, Antonio Inoki and ending with the most recent demise of the noted UFC fighter and Hall of Famer Stephan Bonnar, 2022, presented the fight world with some of the most heartbreaking moments. The UFC’s very own, Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson and the coveted ‘Green Ranger’ from ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’, Jason David Frank also took their last breaths this year.

However, the recent demise of Stephan Bonnar at just 45, came with another terrible shock for fight fans. The demise of another known American fighter named Tanner Marlow followed his death. An MMA enthusiast took to Twitter and offered his condolences on the death of both fighters. He also put up an interesting fact, which was common to both the recently fallen fighters.

Two American Psychos of MMA passed away in quick succession

The fan who tweeted about the demise of the fighters carried the name @Bendaman2001 on Twitter. He also claimed to be a hardcore MMA fan and wished to become a “UFC match maker” someday.

His tweet highlighted the fact that both the deceased fighters were nicknamed ‘The American Psycho’. He also pointed out another similarity between the two, which was, both of them competed as Light Heavyweights.

His tweet read, “Really odd two LHW MMA fighters with the nickname American Psycho passed away on the same guy rip to them both”.

It is pertinent to note that Tanner ‘The American Psycho’ Marlow fought under the promotion, Legacy Fighting Alliance. He had also managed to maintain an unblemished record of 4-0 till his death at just 30 years of age.

His training team, Team Iridian, put out a statement that they would remember him as one of the most promising undefeated prospects in MMA. A lot of fans might agree that putting up these facts made the recent dreaded events even more heartbreaking.

What took Stephan ‘The American Psycho’ Bonnar’s life?

‘The American Psycho’ Bonnar came into prominence after his enthralling ‘The Ultimate Fighter 1’ final bout against Forrest Griffin. Despite losing the bout. Bonnar gained much appreciation from fans. He then made it to the UFC’s Light Heavyweight division and had appreciable bouts with legends like Anderson Silva and Tito Ortiz.

Bonnar took his last breath on 22 December of this heartbreaking year. It was reported that he had a heart complication while he was at work which resulted in the fatality. The UFC boss, Dana White also issued a statement about Bonnar following his demise.

White said, “Stephan Bonnar was one of the most important fighters to ever compete in the Octagon”. The UFC President also described how he was a fan favorite, stating, “The fans loved him, related to him and he always gave them his best. He will be missed.”
