It appears that Joe Rogan was very close to his grandfather because, as soon as he started talking about him; he started getting teary-eyed, but controlled it. “I was very close to my grandfather. I loved him very much. I stayed with him when I moved to New York. I was 23 years old and I didn’t have a place to stay, I didn’t have any money… I was going to chase my dream so I was living with my grandfather and my grandmother had an aneurysm. They gave her 72 hours and she lived for 12 years,” Joe Rogan stated on the #2172 JRE episode.

“My grandfather had been dealing with his wife dying for all these years and she would moan in pain. You’d hear these sounds. He was old and she was old, they were dying… It was this transition in my life from going forth on this great adventure to seeing this man that I loved. It’s darkness… It was agony, it was depressing,” Joe Rogan further stated.

Joe Rogan claimed that the way his grandparents had to live with their illnesses and the area where they lived was very “depressing.” But his grandfather breathed his last, and after witnessing him laid in a casket, the 56-year-old started thinking to himself that maybe his grandfather was still alive and had just bid adieu to his body.

“Everything was, it’s very depressing… like, the neighborhood’s depressing, his [grandfather’s] life was ending it was very, very sad and when I went to his funeral, when he was in the casket, I looked at him and… there’s something about seeing a dead body, where you’re like, ‘He’s not there,'” Joe Rogan added.
