Is Alex Pereira one of the greatest to step inside the Octagon? Well, the Brazilian fighter has only eight fights under the promotion and within those eight fights, Pereira has already defeated five champions and former champions. ‘Poatan’ successfully defended his light heavyweight title at the UFC 300 and called out Dana White for a match in the heavyweight division. Keeping everything aside, it feels as if Pereira is going towards a champ-champ-champ status.

The MMA community is not the only one who thinks that Alex Pereira is looking at the triple champ status as his next goal. Former UFC fighter, Chael Sonnen believes that Pereira has what it takes to be the UFC goat. In his latest escapade, ‘The American Gangster’ took center stage to call Pereira one of the best.

Alex Pereira’s random call out to the UFC CEO Dana White was noted by the MMA community, who understood that Pereira is going towards the triple champ status after his successful defense at the UFC 300. ‘Poatan’ and Tom Aspinall have been hinting at a clash. Besides that, the interim heavyweight champion took to his social media handle to post a photo of him looking at Pereira after his victory.

Pereira might not fight Aspinall at the UFC 301, but it is for sure that he will be clashing against the giant soon. Chael Sonnen, in his latest conversation, revealed that despite being one of the most amateur fighters, Pereira has what it takes to be the best fighter to have ever stepped inside the Octagon. “I look at Alex Pereira. That’s an amateur. He’s got an amateur’s record; he is 12 times now. He’s only been 8 in the octagon, but within those 8, he got two world titles, and he’s beaten five world champions. And if I were to tell you, Alex Pereira, he never had a wrestling match, never had a grappling match, doesn’t even have a black belt, and the greatest to have ever done it,” said Sonnen.

He further explained that if Pereira won the heavyweight title, then there would be no stopping this demon. Sonnen added, “You would roll your eyes. But ‘If [Alex] became champ-champ-champ, and he is the first person ever to actually do it… we’re not out having a conversation on who the GOAT is. We will just refer to [Alex] as the GOAT.’ Conversation on who the GOAT is?”

‘Poatan’s is on a winning streak now, however, seems like the fighter would have to step back from the fighting world because of some uncertainness as revealed by Pereira’s manager.

Pereira might not make a comeback soon

After winning his clash against Jamahal Hill, Alex Pereira called out the UFC CEO stating that he is without any scratches and he deserves a place at the UFC Brazil event. It might have sounded good to the general populace, but team Pereira knew that ‘Poatan’ had to rest and be ready for his upcoming challenge.

“He has another broken toe.. celebrate the victory. Maybe [go to Brazil] to watch the event, but no fights for him… I don’t think [fighting Pereira] is a good idea for Aspinall at this moment,” Guimarães said. The manager believes that “it’s still too premature” and being an interim champion, Tom Aspinall would not risk playing against Pereira.
