Tyron Woodley is one of the greatest welterweights in the history of the UFC, if not the best. Woodley was the former welterweight champion who successfully defended his title four times. The debut UFC bout of ‘the Chosen One’ was against Jay Hieron at UFC 156. Woodley earned a glorious victory by knocking out Hieron with just 36 seconds left in round one. From there, the 40-year-old fought for the promotion, aiming for the championship. He became successful in achieving the same when he squared off against the welterweight champion, Robbie Lawler, at UFC 201. He won the fight halfway through the very first round via knockout.

In recent years, Woodley has faced a tumultuous time in his fighting career. Moreover, he had to retire from the sport after facing four consecutive losses at UFC. His last bout at the promotion was against Vincente Luque. He was not able to escape the brabo choke from his opponent and had to give up in the very first round. Nonetheless, Woodley’s legendary fights make him nothing less than a UFC legend. At the moment, an Instagram post that lists out the top six welterweights in UFC history has provoked Woodley, as it placed his name in the sixth position, below Lawler and Nick Diaz.

Tyron Woodley was not happy with the list
MMA Uncensored’s recent Instagram post showed the top six UFC welterweights of all time. The list included Georges St-Pierre in the top position, followed by Kamaru Usman, Nick Diaz, Robbie Lawler, Matt Hughes, and finally, Tyron Woodley. They placed him in the sixth position. This provoked ‘The Chosen One’ to comment on what he feels is right. Woodley wrote, “How could Robbie be above me and I smashed him. Nick never won a title. With this logic I’m above Usman. GSP, MATT, Usman, Me, Robbie, Johnny, Condit, Nick“

The claims of Woodley hold a fair amount of truth. He became successful in beating Lawler, and Diaz has never become a champion. Furthermore, he also wanted to add the names of Johny Hendricks and Carlos Condit to the list. Hendricks was the former welterweight champion, while Condit was the former interim UFC welterweight champion. According to him, Diaz comes only after all of them, as he has not won a welterweight title.

The new role of ‘The Chosen One’
2021 saw Tyron Woodley run out of steam. After his four consecutive losses in the UFC, he lost back-to-back against the boxing star, Jake Paul. At the moment, ‘The Chosen One’ is not ready to believe that all doors have closed for him.
