Justin Gaethje aims to realize his biggest goal in the sport on Saturday. However, it will not be easy given he will face one of the most dominant champions in UFC history. Khabib on the other hand will look to extend his winning streak to 29-0. Thus both fighters have fixed goals for themselves on Fight Island.

It’s no secret that Khabib will not be fighting for a lot longer. The Dagestani fighter has always maintained that his ultimate goal is to retire undefeated. Most fans and pundits alike believe that ‘The Eagle’ will hang up his gloves at 30-0. Therefore, speculation is rife as to what he will do after the Gaethje fight. As a result of the intense focus on the champion, the challenger is being overlooked.

Ali Abdelaziz, the manager to both Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje, voiced his frustration on Twitter. His Tweet read, Honestly most media so disrespectful enough with the stupid question about Conor or GSP. The best 2 lightweights ever will fight on Saturday show the man some respect it pissing me off.”

Going into the fight, there has been a lot of speculation on who Khabib would fight after UFC 254. Would it be ‘GSP’ or Conor or even Floyd Mayweather? However, the fact remains that he will fight Gaethje next.

Justin Gaethje will look to shock the world from under the radar

It is being taken for granted that ‘The Eagle’ would get past ‘The Highlight’. This thought process completely discredits one of the best fighters in the division. Justin Gaethje has stated that he plans to ruin everyone’s plans for the future with his performance at UFC 254. Every interview done by Khabib has had questions on what are his plans for his thirtieth fight rather than his twenty-ninth fight. Hence, ‘The Highlight’ has been largely under the radar.

Statistically, this has to be the toughest challenge to date for Khabib. Though ‘The Eagle’ has faced elite strikers such as Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier in the past, the interim champion is not far behind. What Gaethje does better than any of Khabib’s previous opponents is that he is excellent at the defensive aspect of wrestling.

‘The Highlight’ has a takedown defense of 80% which is among the highest in the division. Couple that with venomous kicks and crisp striking, and it’s easy to see why he would cause major problems on Fight Night.

Do you think the media has been right in counting out Justin Gaethje? Or do you think Justin will meet the same fate as everyone who has faced Khabib?
