Former UFC light-heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, took a shot at Israel Adesanya ahead of the latter’s quest to capture the 205lbs championship this weekend, at UFC 259. Adesanya is looking to become one of the very few simultaneous double champions of the promotion. The title he is after was Jon Jones’ for a large part of the previous decade.
Jones and Adesanya have been going at each other for a considerable amount of time. ‘Stylebender’ suggested that a fight against ‘Bones’ in July 2021 might happen. He pointed out that the fight would solidify his legacy as the greatest UFC fighter of all time. However, Jones is currently preparing for a move to the heavyweight division.
But that hasn’t stopped both fighters from going back and forth, as there’s still a slim possibility of that fight happening.

“Unfortunately, it might not be summer or July, but there’s still December. There’s still December 2021. It could happen then. All I know is that this fight [with Jon Jones] needs a crowd. I can’t do that in an empty arena,” said Adesanya recently in an interview with Ariel Helwani about potentially facing Jones next, given he wins at UFC 259.

Jones responded with an edited video to mock Adesanya. He captioned it, “I guess the cartoon energy will have his Wrestling and Jujitsu ready by December now.”
Jones has been very active on social media lately, as he has started a trend of using edited videos to mock his opponents. He took a shot at former rival Daniel Cormier too recently, after the latter suggested ‘Bones’ doesn’t have the punching power to knock out heavyweights.
Now, he has shifted his attention to Adesanya as ‘Stylebender‘ looks to capture his second UFC belt this weekend. A win can potentially set up the much-awaited super fight against Jones.

Jon Jones vs Israel Adesanya: will this fight happen in 2021?
Jones looks well past his days at the 205lbs division after over a decade of dominance. He is too big currently to compete at light-heavyweight anytime soon. So, it is a distant possibility that he and Adesanya will fight at this division.

However, Adesanya has previously expressed his desire to fight for the heavyweight belt and become an unprecedented 3 weight-class world champion. ‘Bones‘ is expected to fight for the heavyweight gold upon his divisional debut. Should he capture the belt, a fight between him and ‘Stylebender’ might happen. But, Izzy will look to be triumphant this weekend first.
