However, Pena will try to change the course of history this Sunday. She has competed in eight UFC fights and has a 6-2 UFC record under her name. ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’, is fresh from her recent win over Sara McMann.
Ahead of this intriguing women’s title bout, we compare the careers of both the fighters and also inspect the matchup for a conclusion on how the scrap could possibly end.
Amanda Nunes vs Julianna Pena: The Battle of the Bantamweights
‘The Lioness’ has a professional fighting record of 21-4 under her name. The two-division UFC champion is one of the most dominant fighters in the promotion. She has thirteen knockout wins and four submission wins on her MMA resume.
On the other hand, ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ has a professional MMA record of 11-4 under her name, with three knockouts and five submission wins. She has been on and off in the promotion due to injuries and personal commitments.
Talking about the fight, ‘The Lioness’ has a two-inch height advantage over Pena. The former is also more experienced as she has competed against many notable names and former champions in the promotion.
Even though ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ has some good grappling skills, it is hard to take down a fighter as strong as Nunes. Also, the latter lands 4.50 strikes per minute, which is a huge concern for the challenger, who absorbs only 1.70 strikes per minute.
Hence, Pena will have a hard time in the standing contest against the champion. The only way for her to win against Nunes is via a submission.
