UFC 270: Ngannou vs. Gane- Cody Stamann vs. Said Nurmagomedov: Prediction and Analysis

UFC 270 will be the first pay-per-view offering from UFC in 2022. The event boasts of two championship fights among a plethora of other interesting fights. One of them is the bantamweight clash between veteran Cody Stamann and the returning Said Nurmagomedov.

Said Nurmagomedov has been away from UFC action for over a year. He will look to return to the octagon with a bang and try to put together a streak for himself to get his name written alongside the bantamweight elites of the UFC.

On the flip side, Cody Stamann has been a bantamweight regular since 2017. ‘The Spartan’ will enter the battle hoping to snap his two-fight losing skid. As he wants to challenge UFC sensation Sean O’Malley in his next outing. However, things may be tough for the 32-year-old as he will walk into the octagon against an exceptional fighter.

Stamann is coming off back-to-back losses against some of the most elite fighters of his division, Merab Dvalishvili, and Jimmie Rivera. The orthodox fighter stands at a height of 5′ 6″ with a wingspan of 64 inches.

‘The Spartan’ dishes out 4.03 significant strikes on his opponent with an accuracy of 46%. Meanwhile, he absorbs 3.36 significant strikes with a defense rate of 63%. Wrestling is strong with Stamann as he averages 2.80 takedowns per 15 minutes with a takedown defense of 75%.

Main Card: Said Nurmagomedov stats

Nurmagomedov took some time off the octagon after making quick work of Mark Striegl at UFC Fight Night: Ortega vs. The Korean Zombie back in 2020. Thus, he’ll be looking to make a perfect comeback with a win.

Nurmagomedov stands tall at 5′ 8″ with a reach of 70 inches. The 29-year-old connects 4.65 significant strikes on his opponent in a minute. Whereas he deflects 60% of his opponents’ strikes, absorbing 2.37 hits in a minute. Nurmagomedov averages only 0.45 takedowns in 15 minutes with 7% accuracy.

Both of the bantamweights are well-rounded fighters. However, ‘The Spartan’ is a little shorter compared to his opponent. Stamann will walk into the octagon with Nurmagomedov with a 6″ reach disadvantage.

Wrestling will be the perfect tool for Stamann, who is looking to come back to the winning column. But it all depends on how well he can execute his grappling skills against an impressive striker in Said Nurmagomedov. Meanwhile, the 29-year-old can still carry himself against an aggressive grappler and later finish the match with his striking game.
