Sean O’Malley may be the next big thing in the UFC. The bantamweight champion has often been compared to Conor McGregor due to their flamboyance and elite striking skills. O’Malley even said in a recent interview that he thinks he could be as big a star as ‘Notorious’ by the end of 2024 if he puts in a couple of brilliant performances.

And as the bantamweight champion gears up to try and avenge the only loss on his record against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera at UFC 299 in March, UFC commentator and analyst Michael Bisping thinks this could make O’Malley much richer .

Michael Bisping was discussing the UFC 299 card in Miami, Florida on March 9 on his official YouTube channel. It will be headlined by O’Malley vs. Vera, with Dustin Poirier vs. Benoit Saint-Denis serving as the co-main event.

The card also features much-loved names including Gilbert Burns, who will face Jack Della Maddalena in a welterweight bout. A heavyweight bout between Curtis Blaydes and Jailton Almeida as well as UFC debut for hyped UFC prospect Michael ‘Venom’ Page will be featured on the card along with other exciting bouts.

Owing to the staked nature of the card, Bisping felt that the card would sell well and that O’Malley, who, as champion, is getting PPV points for the card, will make a lot of money after the card. The UFC commentator was also excited to see ‘Suga’ take on ‘Chito’ Vera, the only man to hand him a loss in his otherwise undefeated career.

“So Sean O’Malley and Vera, let’s just be honest, ‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley is going to be a very wealthy man after this fight because this fight card is ridiculous. O’Malley’s the top of the bill, he’s the bantamweight champion going up against Chito. I can’t wait for that one. That’s exciting match up but O’Malley as the champ is getting a piece of this pay-per-view, remember that,” Bisping said. The commentator was equally excited regarding the co-main event for the Miami card.

Bisping looking forward to Poirier vs. Saint-Denis

Talking about the co-main event for the card, Bisping  felt that while Poirier was a very good fighter, he had far more miles on him with his 38 professional fights, while ‘God of War’ comes into the fight with much fresher legs with only fourteen pro MMA fights under his belt. However, the Englishman felt that going five rounds would be to the latter’s advantage as this would be the first time Saint-Denis will fight in a five-round bout. The former middleweight champion opined that the winner will move one step closer to a title shot.

“Dustin Poirier has got the advantage in going five rounds against Benoit [Saint-Denis]. This will be his first time, he might have done it on the regional scene, but never in the UFC. And it will be the co-main event on UFC 299 and you got to think that whoever wins this fight is itching closer to a title fight,” What do you think about Michael Bisping’s take on the UFC 299 card?

Hi, I am Kanishk and I am a UFC Writer at EssentiallySports. I love telling the stories of these magnificent fighters and this wildly unpredictable sport that is so frustrating and yet so joyous at the same time. I never really used to watch MMA, thinking it too crude or brutal a sport to deserve respect.
