Dustin Poirier and Benoit Saint-Denis will square off against one another at UFC 299. This fight is paramount for both fighters, however for different objectives. Saint-Denis would look forward to continuing his winning streak and potentially getting in line for a title fight. Meanwhile, the American fighter looks forward to redeeming himself following his last defeat.
Safe to say, the stakes are high for this match-up and that is what would garner the interest of the fans at large. It would be reasonable to think that both fighters would earn themselves a big purse—but how much?
Dustin Poirier is a veteran of the game and has been in several notable fights in the past. Safe to say, his next fight would also involve a substantial amount of money. While the reports do not disclose his pay for his upcoming fight, we do know that in his last fight at UFC 291; he took home $1,470,000. On that night Poirier suffered a second-round KO defeat to Justin Gaethje. His base pay was $1,000,000 and he added to his earnings in the form of PPV payout, performance bonus, and sponsorship deals. His UFC 291 purse, however, isn’t his highest earning from the octagon.

Poirier reportedly earned more than $5 million for his rematch bout against Conor McGregor at UFC 257 in 2021, where he knocked out ‘The Notorious’ in the second round. The earnings from this fight remain Poirier’s biggest purse as of yet. Given the fact that his fight against Saint-Denis will be a co-main event at UFC 299, the American could end up earning a purse similar to his UFC 291 appearance. There is also the chance of Poirier earning a ‘Fight of the Night’ or ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus to boost his earnings from the night.
Similar to Poirier, the guaranteed purse of the French Mixed Martial Artist is not known either. However, in his last fight, at UFC 295, Saint-Denis’s reported purse was $116,000, which is nothing to scoff at either. He KO’d Matt Fervola in the second round to win his fifth consecutive fight.
That being said, the substantial difference between their pay is owing to their experience disparity. However, before they make the walk out of the tunnel, let’s take a look at what lies ahead of Poirier. There were rumors that the American lightweight might retire if he lost against Saint-Denis. Is that true? Let’s find out.
