If one believes in these things, Alex Pereira is living proof of the fickleness of fate. From being on top of the world by defeating arch-rival Israel Adesanya two years ago, to losing his title in the rematch, to becoming a two-division champion by defeating Jiri Prochazka last November 2023 was a wild year for ‘Poatan’.
The Brazilian recently took to his Instagram account and posted a picture of himself with the caption “BACK (Easter Island head emoji)”, indicating he will be back in the octagon soon. This, of course, excited fans who took to the comments section to ask Pereira some very important questions.

Fans react to Alex Pereira announcing comeback
There have been speculations that Pereira might face interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall at the UFC 300 anniversary mega card. This, has seemed extremely unlikely given his previous comments. ‘Poatan’ had been asked if he was looking to move up and challenge Aspinall the heavyweight title in a recent interview.
He had shot down the possibility of doing so in the near future, saying he was focused on the 205-pound division right now. The former two-division Glory champion stated that moving up was a serious decision and if he were to do it he would do it the “right way”, i.e., with planning and preparations
“It’s not someday, just jump in on an adventure like that. I want to make the things on the right way. I can definitely fight at Heavyweight, maybe something for the future, but it’s gotta be something that’s well planned. Right now, I’m focused on this Light Heavyweight reign,” _’Poatan’ told TheMacLife.

However, his latest Instagram post saying he is back has renewed speculations that he may fight at UFC 300. This seems extremely unlikely given his recent comments. But the possibility of the light heavyweight champion featuring on UFC 300 is not that far fetched. The UFC ropes in the biggest names in the promotion for its anniversary cards, and Pereira is arguably the biggest (active) name in the promotion. There is the possibility of a trilogy fight with Adesanya, which would ensure every UFC fans and their grandmother watch the event. Fans, of course, were predictably excited and took to the comments section to react to Pereira’s post.

Clearly fans hope and wish to see Pereira fight Tom Aspinall at UFC 300 but are very likely to be disappointed. Stranger things, however, have happened and perhaps, just perhaps, Dana White can talk Aspinall and Pereira into a UFC 300 clash after all.
