Conor McGregor has found an even better use for his natural flair, charisma, and penchant for theatrics than even the UFC. The former two-division UFC and Cage Warriors champion will make his Hollywood debut in a remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal of the 90’s action classic ‘Road House.’

The first trailer for the film prominently featured the charismatic Irishman, who, even in the short clip, stole the show with his violent and bombastic performance as ‘Knox’, probably the main antagonist of the film. And after ‘Mac’ floated a possible UFC 300 matchup against Michael Chandler, UFC commentator and former champion Daniel Cormier feels the film may prevent him from fighting on the milestone card.

Film promotion may keep Conor McGregor from UFC 300

On New Year’s Eve, Conor McGregor announced that he would be fighting Michael Chandler in June this year. The two rival TUF 31 coaches were originally supposed to fight last year, but it did not materialize. However, this idea has been shot down by UFC CEO Dana White who told reporters that ‘Notorious’ was not ready to fight in June.

Soon after, the Irishman tweeted about wanting a UFC 300 matchup with Chandler, which the latter agreed to immediately. However, this seems unlikely at this point since White has said that McGregor is not ready for June, so the prospects of him being ready in April seem even more remote.

Meanwhile, however, the Irishman does have the release of his debut film to look forward to. ‘Road House’ is set for a March 21 release on Amazon Prime Video. Fellow ‘champ champ’ Daniel Cormier thinks that since McGregor is a major part of the film, his press and promotional commitments for the film will seriously affect his ability to train for an April fight at UFC 300.

“How much does that [release of Road House] play into maybe McGregor not fighting at UFC 300? Because if I remember correctly, ‘Road House’ comes out next month. You know, when these movies come out there’s tours. Conor seems to be a big part of the movie. If he is, Ryan, that would only leave him two months to prepare for UFC 300,” said Cormier

“And if he’s preparing today it would mean he would have to go on to the media tour to help promote the movie. He’s one of the biggest stars in the movie,” Cormier told his co-host Ryan Clark on their ‘DC and RC Show’ on ESPN MMA’s YouTube channel. While the timeline for his comeback fight may be uncertain as of now, that is not the only subject of debate about the fight.

Conor McGregor wants to fight Chandler at middleweight

The most surprising part about Conor McGregor’s announcement was that the Irishman wanted the bout to be at 185 pounds. This was shocking to many since it is 30 pounds heavier than the 155-pound lightweight division Chandler has fought at in the UFC.

However, the former Bellator champion was unconcerned about the weight division since he and McGregor naturally weigh within a few pounds of each other. Chandler felt that this may go against ‘Mac’ as it may negatively affect the Irishman’s speed and quickness.
