Conor McGregor‘s comeback bout has been delayed indefinitely. The Irishman, who last fought three years ago, had announced on New Year’s eve that he would be fighting rival TUF coach Michael Chandler at UFC 302 on June 29 in a middleweight bout.

This was denied by UFC CEO Dana White soon after who told reporters that the former two-division champion was not ready to fight. After this, ‘Notorious’ came out and suggested he could fight the former Bellator champion on the upcoming UFC 300 in April, instead. However, verbose UFC analyst and former title contender Chael Sonnen thinks the possibility of this is remote and explained why in a video on his YouTube channel.

Sonnen thinks Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler not worthy of UFC 300

Chael Sonnen felt that Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler was very unlikely to be featured on the UFC 300 anniversary megacard due to it not being a big enough fight to headline the event. The UFC puts on mega fights among the biggest stars in the promotion for its anniversary cards and the main vent for UFC 300 is expected to knock fans’ socks off. ‘The Bad Guy’ did not think McGregor-Chandler did not rise to this level.

“Conor versus Chandler. UFC 300. Do you think this is the fight that we’re waiting on? No is my answer. No because I don’t know that we would have a shock and or an awe moment, I think it would be par for the course,” he said.

Sonnen also addressed the strange rumors around the bout. ‘Uncle Chael’ said that the possibility that the UFC would dissolve the 170-pound welterweight division, and introduce two new weight divisions- 165 lbs and 175 lbs, with McGregor-Chandler being the first 165-pound title fight at UFC 300 were pure conjecture and had no basis in reality.

“The story goes like this: Dana White is going to announce that Leon is no longer champion because the UFC will no longer contest 170 lbs. They are going to begin from this day forward contesting 165 lbs and 175 lbs. Goodbye Leon, hello Conor-Chandler 165 inaugural title fight at 300. And I got asked to have to weigh in on this no that is silly that is ridiculous,” ‘The Bad Guy’ added. While Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler may not move the needle enough for UFC 300, one of Sonnen’s fellow commentator has another matchup that may be good enough for the big event.

‘DC’ suggests ‘Mac’ fight old rival on UFC 300

Daniel Cormier recently weighed in on which fight he would like to see on UFC 300. The New Orleans native felt that the card needed a fight with a backstory and anticipation behind it. He suggested McGregor fight Nate Diaz for the third time on the anniversary card given the popularity of both men as well as the way their first and second fights played out as well as their commercial success.

“What I will say about UFC 300, it’s missing a big fight. That big fight that it’s missing has to have a backstory. That big fight has to have bad blood. That big fight has to bring the eyeballs. So, it can’t be Belal Muhammad and Leon Edwards… But if McGregor fights Diaz, that is what I believe draws the general fan in as much as anything that they could do in the UFC right now,” Cormier said. Who do you think Conor McGregor should face next?
