Meanwhile, Cormier, former heavyweight champion and Hall of Famer does not think the bout should go at UFC 300. That being said, he foresees Dana White making it happen at some stage. In his new video on YouTube, he said, “Some ideas in my mind as to what I think or hope UFC 300 main event will be. I don’t know if it’ll come to fruition, but I do believe that it won’t be McGregor.”

He added, “It won’t be, I don’t think it’ll be McGregor-Chandler. I think it’ll be something different, but I do believe that these guys will fight. Now, before, I didn’t think for a second that Michael Chandler would get that fight against Conor McGregor, but I do believe now that they’ll get it.”

Cormier does make a lot of sense, However, it equally bears mention that the sport is unpredictable. Only with time, the sport will witness which speculation held good. Until then, let’s take a look at who is to be blamed for the delay in McGregor’s return.

The last time the Irishman fought was in July 2021. This is the longest lay-off the Dublin-born has had in his entire career. However, is it his fault? According to him, he has been trying to get his fight made official. The same holds true for Chandler who has pushing for it to take place at the earliest available date and has been on standby since 2022. Subsequently, all fingers point at the UFC for stalling the fight.

Not to mention, according to Talksport, McGregor hinted at the UFC not allowing him to fight. “They’re not going to let me fight in December, ladies and gentlemen,” McGregor said in a series of voice notes on X last year. He added, “But anyway, I hold the power, and I’m going to keep doing my thing, I’m in a great spot, and I’ll see you all soon. F****** early next year, hopefully.”
