Dana White finally announced the headliner for the UFC 300 pay-per-view in April. The main event will feature Alex Pereira, defending his light-heavyweight title against former champion Jamahal Hill. However, that was not the fight the fans were waiting for, leading them to express their disappointment with the UFC CEO after all the hype surrounding the historic event.

After an impressive UFC 298, Dana White took to Instagram and shared a video of the announcement as usual. He said, “It [the UFC 300 main event] will feature Alex Pereira defending his light heavyweight title against Jamahal Hill.” The 54-year-old also mentioned why he put the light heavyweight fight in the main event.

Jamahal Hill did not get a chance to defend his light heavyweight title after defeating Alex Pereira’s mentor, Glover Teixeira. He suffered an injury during a training session that devastated him since he had to relinquish the title. As such, Dana White felt it was only right to let him fight for the title again. “[Jamahl Hill] never lost the title, but vacated his belt after tearing his Achilles last year,” the UFC CEO added.

The UFC 300 main event has two strikers fighting for the title. Given how most fights between strikers end up, the announcement of the Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill ensures a knockout is not out of the question. Both fighters possess a lot of power in their punches and would seek to put each other’s lights out for a statement win.

Although it is a fight that involves a top star like Alex Pereira, fans did not seem on board with Dana White’s announcement. They had their takes on what the main event could have been while sounding off on the 54-year-old on social media.

Fans are not happy with Dana White’s UFC 300 main event announcement

Given how much the fans waited for the announcement of the historic April pay-per-view, they were not excited about the prospect of watching Alex Pereira fight Jamahal Hill for the light heavyweight title. Furthermore, Alexander Volkanovski’s knockout loss to Ilia Topuria weighed heavily on the fans.

Furthermore, the fans believe that after witnessing UFC 298, UFC 300 is looking like an average event. Some even went on to claim that the BMF title fight between Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway is the actual main event.

“Maybe an unpopular opinion, but UFC 300 is mid”

“Justin vs max is the main event for me then”

Some fans suggested that Dana White should have considered a trilogy fight between Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya but at light heavyweight. But after the announcement, they called the UFC 300 main event “boring.”

Although the fans are disappointed with the April headliner, it is essential to note that Dana White has mentioned that a reshuffle of the UFC 300 is not out of the question. That is often the nature of UFC fights. However, we will have to wait and see how things pan out as we inch closer to the triple-century PPV.
