UFC 300: Does Jon Anik’s choice make sense?

During a recent press conference, Dana White confirmed that the UFC administration is actively searching for two additional fights to complete the UFC 300 lineup. While rumors have circulated about White’s decision regarding the main event, it appeared that he would choose the Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway fight as his main event, but later revelations quashed the news.

However, Jon Anik’s recent statement has again raised doubts. When Anik was asked about his choice of main event for the grand night, and to everyone’s surprise, Anik played it safe and asserted that he was looking at Gaethje vs. Holloway as the main event for the night. “I would go with Max Holloway and Justin Gaethje, and I actually think right now, if I had to make a prediction, that’s going to be your main event for UFC 300.”

Anik’s observation might tell a different story, considering the fact that White is in distress about the main event, and the announcement of the Holloway vs. Gaethje as the prime attraction might work against as well as for the promotion. It must be noted that the revelation is Anik’s own view.

The Super Bowl was rumored to be the ground for the UFC 300 fight announcement, but to everyone’s disappointment, there were no such announcements at the Super Bowl. This aggravated the fans who were waiting for the announcement. White, on Tuesday, committed to a new deadline for a UFC 300 main event announcement.

In a recent conversation with Kevin Lole, the UFC CEO has asserted that he has a new deadline for the UFC 300 announcement and he is planning on keeping his promise this time. “I’ll probably announce it…maybe I’ll announce it at the press conference this weekend,” White said. “Post[fight].”
