Jamahal Hill has a clear message for light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira ahead of their UFC 300 bout. ‘Sweet Dreams’ will face ‘Poatan’ in the main event of the UFC’s tricentenary PPV card on April 13. Hill, who had relinquished his 205-pound title after rupturing his Achilles tendon last year, will attempt to reclaim it from Pereira in what is promising to be an electrifying bout.

However, Hill is not the only one who has a score to settle. The Chicago resident won the 205-pound title off of Pereira’s coach and close friend Glover Teixeira. And Pereira seems to be on a revenge tour to try and avenge his mentor’s losses. Last year, he took the first steps towards this end by defeating former champion and Teixeira’s former contender Jiri Prochazka, to win the title in UFC’s second-heaviest division. Jamahal Hill, who seems next, has now warned Poatan of the potential fate that awaits him ahead of their April 13 bout at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jamahal Hill faced Glover Teixeira for the light heavyweight title at UFC 283 back in January 2021. At 42 years old, Teixeira was one of the oldest champions in the UFC, and was no match for the speed and power of ‘Sweet Dreams’, losing a one-sided unanimous decision to the new champion.

Alex Pereira was present in Teixeira’s corner and witnessed the mauling of his friend and coach firsthand. On the latest episode of ‘UFC 300 Countdown’, Hill reminded Pereira of the beating he put on Teixeira and that it was now the Brazilian’s turn and promised him a “tough fight”.

“Alex was there he was in Glover’s corner. I went in and I dominated Glover for five rounds. Now it’s his turn to come in and see if he can capitalise on that same task and ultimately succeed where his teacher did not,” Hill said.

While ‘Poatan’ has maintained he is not looking for revenge as it is not good for sticking to plans he intends to stick to the game plan and maintain his poise. However, it is safe to say he would be at least a little bit happier at having beaten the man who retired his coach. If, he can beat ‘Sweet Dreams’, that is. This is not going to be an easy task as Hill is leaving no stone unturned to prepare for Alex Pereira.

Hill picks Israel Adesanya’s brain ahead of UFC 300

Given how they match up stylistically, sparks are expected to fly at the Jamahal Hill vs. Alex Pereira light heavyweight title bout. Hill, ever ready to stand in the pocket and trade heavy shots with his opponents, is not afraid to get into a good old-fashioned brawl. And his dynamic and powerful striking has been more than enough to deal with almost every opponent he has come across.

However, ‘Poatan’ is nothing if not dangerous. The Brazilian is equally willing to stand and trade, which, because of his legendary left hand, is more often than not a risky prospect for his opponents, as Jiri Prochazka found out in their UFC 295 clash last year.

And it seems Hill has a healthy respect for the danger the light heavyweight champion poses. The former champion is going all out and pulling out all the stops to prepare for the Brazilian. ‘Sweet Dreams’ revealed recently that he was picking the brain of ‘Poatan’s nemesis and the only man to beat him in the UFC: Israel Adesanya.

The Dana White’s Contender Series alumni posted a screenshot of a video call between him and ‘Izzy’ on social media, with the caption “Picking one of the greatest minds [in] the history of the sport.” While some fans were quick to point out that Adesanya has lost three times to the two-division champion (twice in their kickboxing days at Glory FC and once in their UFC days), no one knows Pereira more closely, as a fighter, than the Kiwi-Nigerian.
