Alex Pereira will defend his light heavyweight title against Jamahal Hill in a few days at UFC  300. Needless to say, both fighters will be desperate to win at the historic event and etch their name in history. But there’s more to the backstory for this fight. Ever since UFC 283 in January 2023, fans have been waiting for Pereira vs. Hill to unfold as a revenge story!

The Brazilian recently appeared on the Main Event show on YouTube. While speaking to the host, Niko Pajarillo, the champion, shared his game plan before his fight. Many believe that Pereira is entering the fight to avenge the loss of his coach and friend, Glover Teixeira. But what does the champion say? Let us find out.

Jamahal Hill won the light heavyweight after he defeated Glover Teixeira at UFC 283. ‘Sweet Dreams’ won the fight via unanimous decision after a thorough beat down of Pereira’s coach, friend, and mentor. This was the first meeting between him and Pereira, as the latter was in the corner of Teixeira. One year down the line ‘Poatan’ has the opportunity to avenge the loss of his long-time friend. But is he really going into the fight with a vengeance in mind? Well, the champion doesn’t quite feel so. In his recent interview, he shared his thought process before his first title defense.

Pereira, who won the vacant title after defeating Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295, said, “I think he had his game plan. He had his strategy. But Glover and I have very different styles. But you know he put on a good performance with a good game plan. That’s pretty much it. I don’t see it that way. You know I have my own strategy, I have my own history, you know. He’s just another guy regardless if you fought Glover. He’s just another opponent.”

Both Pereira and Hill are confident of winning the fight at UFC 300. Despite coming off an injury the former champion promised his fans of a tough fight. In a recent interview before his much-anticipated fight at UFC 300, he issued a warning for ‘Poatan’.

With UFC 300 just a few days away, the mind games have already begun. Hill recently made an appearance at the ‘UFC 300 Countdown’ show. The former champion reminded the current champion as to how he once defeated his teacher. He also made sure to remind the world that he was unfazed by the presence of the hard-hitting Brazilian. Many believe that ‘Sweet Dreams’ would struggle in his fight because of the injury to his leg. Pereira is a renowned kickboxer and his lethal leg kicks might just be tough to handle.

Hill ,however, seems very confident of winning his fight and even challenged the champion. During the interview, he said, “Alex was there he was in Glover’s corner. I went in, and I dominated Glover for five rounds. Now it’s his turn to come in and see if he can capitalize on that same task and ultimately succeed where his teacher did not,” This will be Pereira’s first title defense in the light heavyweight division.
