With just days to go for the first PPV of the year, UFC 311, co-main eventer Umar Nurmagomedov, sparked some discussions in the MMA community after he claimed to have been injured recently. Khabib’s cousin claims to have fractured his arm and was suggested not to take the fight on January 18. However, due to the virality of this update from the Dagestan native, Umar decided to give us the full picture of what the current condition is.

It was back in November last year when Nurmagomeodv shared a tweet claiming that he was injured, and then he mentioned it once again during an interview with ESPN a few days ago. However, the 29-year-old claims that he had recovered well by the time his camp for the fight against Merab Dvalishvili went underway. While quoting his cousin’s popular catchphrase, the undefeated star claims to be in ‘perfect’ condition to get inside the Octagon and become the 15th undefeated fighter to win a world championship.

“I am not training injured. I was already healthy when I began this training camp, and it was not some trouble when trained. Nothing. It was perfect training camp,” Nurmagomedov told Mike Bohn of ‘MMA Junkie’. “I’m good, I’m good. I’m perfect. Don’t worry about that. My arms ready to smash.”

Umar Nurmagomedov may have sparked debates about him letting the information about his injury slip for Dvalishvili to take advantage of. However, a former champion’s coach believes it won’t matter much to the Dagestan native when he steps inside the Octagon on January 18. Here’s what the coach had to say.

Sean O’Malley’s coach downplayed Umar Nurmagomedov’s injury

Sean O’Malley‘s coach Tim Welch claims that Khabib Nurmagomedov’s camp knows how to handle their business. He believes that if Umar wasn’t able to train or do anything that is required during training, they would have never taken the fight in the first place. Moreover, Welch is of the idea that the undefeated bantamweight star is going to surprise people with his readiness for the fight. And even if he is a bit injured, Umar may not care because title shots are hard to come by.

“I think he’s probably going to be more healthy and more ready than people think. And, yeah, it’s like I said, for these title shots, it’s like, for some people, you’ll get one title shot your whole career, the rest of your life,” Welch told ‘Submission Radio’. While he believes that title shots are not easy to get, O’Malley’s coach claims that the ‘Nurmagomedov’ name will help Umar get back into title contention in the future if he happens to lose to Merab Dvalishvili. “For Umar, with his last name, I feel like even if he lost this Merab fight, he wins two more, he’s back in the title picture,” Welch added.

Well, UFC 311 is a big day for Team Khabib because Umar Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev will both be with titles up for grabs. What are your predictions for the PPV? Do you see the duo emerging champions in the aftermath of their fights? Let us know in the comments down below.
