Alexander Volkanovski is the #1 Pound-for pound fighter in the UFC. The Australian was last seen in the octagon at UFC 276 in July 2022. Volkanovski defeated Max Holloway by decision there. Max Holloway himself is currently ranked #1 in the featherweight division. The rankings are evidence of how close the two fighters are in skills. ‘The Great’ was talking to John Hyon Ko on his YouTube Channel ‘The Allstar’ recently. He had a word of advice for fellow featherweight fighter Max Holloway. Volkanovski seemed to have a lot of respect for Max Holloway. He, however, sent him a warning.

Volkanovski talked about a lot of UFC-related topics. He was, however, very blunt about his views about Max Holloway. He spoke his mind after the host asked about the career trajectory of Holloway. The Aussie fighter is set to fight lightweight champ Islam Makhachev at UFC 284. The fight is being marketed as Champion vs Champion.

Alexander Volkanovski sends a warning for ‘The Blessed’

Alexander Volkanovski was replying to a question about his last opponent, Max Holloway. The host Hyon Ko asked, “The other guy that you fought last year is Max Holloway, with you as a champ. Where do you think he sits in the title picture, man?”

Continuing his question, the host asked, “He is still one of the best in the division. Without a doubt, it’s just that he has lost 2 or 3 times. “

In response, Volk had a very sensible answer. He said, “Yeah, it’s a tricky one, I thought. I said in the lead up to that fight, I felt like it was more on him. Cuz obviously if I lose I will feel bad, right, but I mean, for him, I just felt like cuz he got a lot of people throwing his name in being one of the greatest featherweights and because he is.”

‘The Great’ seemingly agreed to the previous statement he made about Holloway being one of the greatest, he further continued saying, “He is one of the greatest featherweight fighters and stuff like that, but I felt like you know he is tied himself in a title picture and all that. He loses again, That makes a lot of things hard.”

While Volkanovski warned Holloway against the repercussions of another loss, he himself is all set for a big dance with a Dagestani. He will be up against Islam Makhachev in a champ vs champ fight at UFC 284. The event is scheduled for the 12th of February, 2023. While discussing the strategy of taking damage, Volkanovski felt it was not an idea he agreed much with. Volkanovski said all good fighters across sports possess a solid defensive game. He also indicated that he would not like to take damage that may end up in brain damage or worse.

Islam Makhachev will be keenly listening to everything that Alexander Volkanovski says right now. Volks is not known for taking any serious damage and Makhachev will have to break through that defense if he is looking to make an impact. Max Holloway meanwhile should look for a streak of W’s. What’s your take?
