After giving fans one of the, if not the most thrilling UFC fight in recent history, Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev is finally back beside the man who held the same title once before him. In a fresh post on Instagram, captioned, “Fight Analysis“. The 31-year-old posed with long-time friend and mentor Khabib Nurmagomedov while claiming to analyze the fight in the caption. Considering that the five-round battle against Alexander Volkanovski tested the Dagestani’s true limits, both physically and mentally, it won’t come as a surprise that the duo sat down to discuss it.

Fans of both fighters thronged in the comment section, but curiously the majority of them were questioning why Makhachev was not made the P4P number one after his win. Since the fight took place between the two top-ranked fighters in the promotion, fans believed that the Russian would climb atop Volkanovski and claim the number one spot.

While questions of a robbery at the ranking were the common theme, quite a few talked about how Nurmagomedov‘s presence could have helped Makhachev with a better performance. ‘The Eagle’ didn’t make the journey to Australia owing to his retirement in a bid to spend more time with his family.

One fan even asked Nurmagomedov to teach the champion on how to manage his cardio, especially in the championship round.

“Khabib, please teach Islam how not to gas up in the championship round.”

A couple of fans requested the former undefeated champ to corner Makhachev from here onwards.

“u need khabib in ur corner for the rematch..lets go !”

“Khabib please make sure your presence whenever Islams fight. Because we all witnessed that your absence cost him a lot.”

While another ardent fan reminded Makhachev of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov and his grand plan of successive Russian champions.

“Remind him of Father’s plan”

Going through the comment section, it was quite obvious that fans expected a dominant win from Makhachev. However, the main discontent was with the official P4P rankings.

Despite winning the five-rounder, Makhachev clearly failed to win the minds of the decision-makers at UFC. After the promotion’s latest update to their rankings, fans were subjected to a bit of shock as Alexander Volkanovski continued to sit atop the table. Although technically a win should have been enough for the Russian to take the top spot, the officials responsible for the rankings clearly didn’t feel so.

In their defense, some might argue that the featherweight champ, coming from a smaller division, was able to almost take Makhachev to the brink of defeat. That could be one reason behind the ranking, although at this point any discussion on it is pure speculation.
