The return of Jon Jones to fight against Ciryl Gane in the heavyweight division has taken flight, as the world waits in anticipation. As the date for the fight drew closer, the world of mixed martial arts began giving out their opinion about the fight. Every other talk show tackled the excitement of the fans for the fight.
Recently, the renowned MMA reporter, Ariel Helwani, invited Chael Sonnen on his talk show, ‘The MMA Hour’. Without a doubt, Helwani asked the former mixed martial artist about his take on the upcoming heavyweight battle. Sonnen’s comments surprised the fans. Moreover, the ‘American Gansta’ revealed his thoughts on Francis Ngannou. As the video of the interview found its way to Instagram, the fans were quick to take to the comments section and express themselves.

Undeniably, the return of the former champion has excited the MMA world to a great extent. Furthermore, the fact that he kept his promise and landed in the heavyweight division has also been commended by the fans. However, Sonnen had a different perspective. He said, “you got a guy that took three years off versus a guy that’s 1-1 in his last two. I mean, that’s just the reality. I don’t know if we’ve had a more, a less deserving heavyweight match in a meaningful period of time.”

Additionally, he said that the UFC heavyweight division is in ‘pretty slim pickings’. Without a doubt, the comments triggered the voice of the public. Although some of the fans sided with Sonnen, many others were against the notion. Furthermore, some fans took notice of Sonnen’s ‘saltiness’.

Backup fighter for UFC 285 main event
The MMA manager, Ali Abdelaziz, revealed Sergei Pavlovich was the backup for the UFC 285 main event. Abdelaziz declared that the 30-year-old fighter would be on standby and be ready to step up on short notice.

Sergei Pavlovich is the heavyweight backup to this week's UFC 285 main event, per his manager Ali Abdelaziz (@AliAbdelaziz00). Dana White mentioned last weekend there is a backup in place. Pavlovich will weigh-in on Friday in Vegas, per Abdelaziz.
