Back in 2012, Jon Jones announced that he would move to the heavyweight category by the end of 2013. However, the world kept waiting for the former interim champion’s heavyweight debut ever since. Furthermore, ‘Bones’ wanted to fight Francis Ngannou when he moved up from the light heavyweight division. Although he made the declaration almost a decade ago, some fans still hope Jones returns to the Octagon. Moreover, many from the MMA universe believe that the fighter is too old to compete now. Nonetheless, with some recent declarations on social media, the fans can still carry on hoping the long-awaited fight between Ngannou and Jones to happen this year.

The world didn’t forget Jones’s promise to debut in the heavyweight division. Nonetheless, the fighter has worked hard and bulked up. The fans might see the fighter back in the Octagon soon enough.

Fans dismiss the idea of Jon Jones keeping his decade-old promise

Recently, the decade old promise was brought back into the light. A post on Reddit made the MMA world remember that Jones once vowed to debut in the heavyweight division. The caption read, “It’s been a decade for Jones talking about Heavyweight.” Furthermore, the post had a picture of the fighter with his promise written in highlights. Jones said, “I’ll definitely move up to heavyweight. But it’ll probably be around 2013. Maybe at the end of 2013.”

Looking at the post, most of the fans simply denied the fact that the former interim champion could ever get back into the cage. The MMA fans took over the comments and criticized Jones for being so late. However, some of the fans did not forget that the man still has to settle the score with Ngannou.

Jon Jones Faces Severe Backlash After Old Tweets Expose Recent “Champion” Statement

Here is what fans had to say:

  • Trying to do a GSP and get the easiest title fight possible.
  • I’m guessing Jones just threw away his prime years and will be a step slower at heavyweight. All this for just about nothing.
  • Dana will probably have him fight a can to get the hw hype train going one last time. Hoping he can cash out one last big PPV after that.
  • At this point, any talk of Jones at HW should be banned till he’s in the cage for his HW debut.
  • I’d go as far as just talking about Jones fighting in general. Seems more and more unlikely as time passes. Man literally pissed his physical prime years away. It’s amazing in a bad way.
  • The 10 year training camp is finally over. He ready! Then whippings from his HW Big Bro got him shook to death from HWs lol
  • Every point happened a while ago. He could’ve fought a while ago.
  • Bro dont want that Francis smoke
  • Funny thing, he probably realizes now that he is too old
  • He doesn’t want the smoke anymore. He’s probably fine financially and starting to feel the head trauma and his mortality.
  • Better late than never.

The warrior is indeed expecting the fighter to land against Ngannou for a title shot. However, it is unclear if the bout will happen anymore, or not. Nonetheless, the fans would in fact love to see ‘Bones’ showing off inside the Octagon.
