UFC featherweight Makwan Amirkhani has drawn out wrestling ace Mike Grundy in his return fight set for March 19, 2022. ‘Mr. Finland’ is at an all-time low in his career right now and he’s on a devastating three-fight skid. In fact, he was knocked out cold in his last fight against Lerone Murphy that took place on October 30, 2021.
The featherweight division is arguably the best division in the UFC, with an embarrassment of riches across the board. There is always scope for the fighters to make a massive jump up in the ranks, and that will be the sole motive of both men. Not to mention, Alexander Volkanovski is trying to maintain an active schedule and clear out contenders quickly.

As mentioned earlier, Amirkhani is on a massive skid and could very well be fighting for his place on the roster. He started off his career with a bang and was considered an immediate prospect who could become a title threat. However, he’s far off from that now and will have to make some serious moves to rebuild himself.

‘Mr. Finland’ had a lot of grappling success against Murphy in his last fight, up until the point he walked into a flying knee. He will have to be wary of the same against Grundy, who is experienced with his maneuvers on the mat. However, Amirkhani has the advantage when it comes to being explosive and can catch his opponent off guard.

Mike Grundy is on a downturn himself and has lost two fights in a row. Prior to the defeat in March 2015 and was riding a 9-fight win streak. His losses have been far less dramatic than Amirkhani’s and he’ll be confident in his ability to strike a resurgence.

Mike Grundy’s wrestling acumen stems from his days as a freestyle wrestling ace and he even won the bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. This is the best achievement of his career and successfully highlights the fact that he’s experienced on the biggest stage.
