An important clash in the middleweight division between Kevin Holland and Derek Brunson will headline this weekend’s UFC Fight Night card. However, Bruno Silva and JP Buys will clash in an important flyweight bout on the preliminary card of the event as well.

Silva will make his fourth appearance inside the Octagon against Buys. ‘Bulldog’ is yet to win a contest in his UFC stint. After a no-contest against Khalid Taha at UFC 243, the Brazilian has dropped two back-to-back decisions against David Dvorak and Tagir Uranbekov.

Buys, on the other hand, will make his promotional debut against Silva. ‘Young Savage’ has previously competed twice in the Dana White’s Contender Series. He lost his fight against Joby Sanchez in 2017 by TKO, but he won his recent Contender Series fight against Jacob Silva by submission in November 2020.

Bruno Silva and JP Buys in numbers

The 31-year-old Silva holds a professional record of 10-5-2-1. He has finished 6 out of his 10 fights with 3 of those wins coming by T/KO, and 3 by submission. Silva is a former LFA fighter and has fought to a draw against the promotion’s former two-division champion, Casey Kenney, during his time in the organization.

Meanwhile, Buys has a professional record of 9-2, and is currently on a 5-fight winning streak. ‘Young Savage’ will look to build on that on his debut at the biggest stage of all.

Buys has finished 8 out of his 9 professional wins. He has 3 T/KO finishes and 5 submission wins under his resume to show for his efforts. However, he will have his hands full against a veteran of the game like Silva.

Silva has arguably fought the better level of competitions throughout his career. Even his last two losses in the UFC were against prospects of the bantamweight division, where he put up a good fight.

And this experience can come in handy against a rising prospect like Buys. Silva should be able to wear on ‘Young Savage’ as he has shown good conditioning in his career. Also, he has a good chin and durability which should help him prevent Buys from adding to his impressive tally of first-round finishes.

Expect the 31-year-old Brazilian to grind out a win.
