When Dustin Poirier decided to face Benoit Saint-Denis, many felt that it might be the last fight for Poirier. However, the 35-year-old shocked everyone with his performance at UFC 299. The ‘Diamond’ won the fight via knockout in the second round, thus putting an end to all the noises of him retiring. Such was the stature of his performance that experts now want to see him go for the lightweight title.

Former Middleweight champion Michael Bisping recently took to his YouTube to give his thoughts. During the podcast, Bisping seemed excited about Poirier’s performance and also made serious claims.

Dustin Poirier entered the Octagon on Sunday as a complete underdog. His opponent, the ‘God of War’ came into the fight with 5 wins in his last 5 fights. The ‘Diamond’, on the other hand, had suffered a huge knockout loss against Justin Gaethje in his previous fight. However, the former interim champion took the battle to the 28-year-old and matched him blow-to-blow before ending the fight in the second round. His performance not only surprised everyone but has also put him in the top spot, according to Michael Bisping.

He said, ” Because somebody goes out and gets a big victory sets the arena on fire the way Dustin did. That can pull you on the front of the line. Right now I am telling you there’s gonna be a lot of demand for Dustin Poirier to fight Islam Makhachev. I am sure if you are Islam Makhachev and you watched that fight, that kind of fight excites you. Of course he is the champion he gets to call the pay-per-view. So of course people wanna see Dustin. That was one of the best fights in the UFC. And I say that makes him jump to the front of the queue right. But I am telling you right now don’t be surprised ok . Dustin Poirier deserves it . At his age he is running out of opportunities.

28-year-old Benoit Saint-Denis is one of the rising names in the lightweight division. The former Special Forces member started his MMA training just seven years back and is now knocking out people for fun in the UFC. Before his fight with ‘The Diamond’ at UFC 299, many experts had even predicted a win for the Frenchman. Although Denis started the fight with a lot of aggression, he failed to handle the striking power of Poirier. The 35-year-old landed a strong right hand in the second round, which knocked out ‘God Of War’.

However, after his loss BSD took to his Social Media to apologize to his fans and reveal the real reason. He said, “Hello France, Unfortunately, tonight I couldn’t fully express myself. My body didn’t keep up after a week of antibiotics to fight an infection. Throughout I was present but my body was absent, it did not react as usual.” He also thanked Poirier for taking up the fight and promised to come back stronger.
